I was worried something would happen to Cheney when he had his heart surgery. At that point I wouldn’t leave it past the DemoRats to refuse to approve a new VP and then impeach Bush and assuming “their rightful place” in the White House.
There’s a lot of “what if” scenarios like Cheney’s health, but GWB was returned to office with the largest number of votes in history. But he’s fumbled a few things, the nomination of Harriet Miers, the social security mess, the naive assumption of instant democracy in iraq, the immigration mess, on and on.
And yet I see him finishing out his term if the ancient curse is gone : since harrison in 1840, every president elected every 20 years dies in office. Reagan ALMOST died in the hinckley assassination strike. So GWB has some 18 months to go. If iraq turns around and gets on its feet, that will be a big PLUS. Still, a LOT will happen before a new president is installed in jan 2009. If it’s the WITCH I’ll lead the secession effort here in MT, that’s for sure.
