Muslim lawmaker hears from Iraq sheiks (Rep. Keith Ellison and others on a Iraq weekend trip)

WASHINGTON - Rep. Keith Ellison, Congress' only Muslim, made a weekend trip to Iraq, where a pair of sheiks urged him to help counter al-Qaida's vision of Islam.

Ellison, D-Minn., said he met in Ramadi with the two sheiks, who oversee several hundred thousand congregants.

"They were very upset and concerned that al-Qaida is misrepresenting Islam," Ellison told reporters Monday during a conference call from Germany on his way back to the U.S. "And they were talking to me about what I can possibly do to work with them to give a clearer, more accurate picture of what Islam is all about."

Ellison, a vocal critic of the Iraq war, was part of a delegation of six freshman House members, three Democrats and three Republicans, who visited Baghdad and Ramadi.

Leading the delegation was Rep. Jerry McNerney, D-Calif., who said he saw signs of progress in Ramadi in Anbar province and was impressed by Gen. David Petraeus, President Bush's top military commander in Iraq, who argued in favor of giving Bush's troop surge strategy time to work.

McNerney said he still favors a timeline to get troops out of Iraq — something House leaders may bring to the floor again this week as part of a defense spending bill — but is open to being flexible "in terms of when it might end."

If you were to read the same story, printed in the Star Tribune, you wouldn’t see the remarks that caught your eye....Typical....

Now what would happen if a Christian lawmaker met with other Christians who asked him for help in understanding what Christianity is all about?

I kind of suspect that the nexus of politics and reality will dictate some kind of withdrawl beginning in April 2007 to be completed by July of 2009. This could give the surge enough time, gradually turn things over to the Iraqis and provide needed flexibilty. It would also ease the concerns of fraidy cat republican congresscritters.

You can get a clearer, more accurate picture of what Islam is all about yourself,by reading the Koran . And read also the Hadiths for the example of how to follow the religion as exemplified by Muhammed.

I have, and have reached the the same conclusion as Zarqawi, and Bin Laden, and the Wahabbis.

If I were a Muslim I would have those Infidel ass kissing, heretical Sheiks killed for trying to water down what Allah wants done. - tom

Therein lies the rub.

For someone to be a devout muslim, they also have to be a murderer.

Other than self defence, murder would be killing another fundamental Muslim.

Infidels, regardless of race, creed, agnosticism, atheism, national origin, age, sex, etc. and also Muslim heretics, are not innocent victims. -Tom

I see, so, now this guys is going to hold religious studies in congress? Is he going to be the congressional imam? Not enough foot baths in public places?

Islam earned every bit of it’s current status since the 7th century of tyranny. This will be an attempt to engineer history.

It is a shame, but the Muslims are a bunch of wackos still stuck in the 7th century with a mindset to match. The concept of tolerance is completely lost on them. They are still fighting the crusades. They are truly barbarians who understand nothing but brute force.

Unfortunately, they are using 21st century toys.
