"I must say the music wasn’t all soulless"

ok, perhaps not ALL of the music emanating from San Francisco was soulless, but has anyone here ever attempted to actually listen to that crap that the Grateful Dead is so famous for?

Yes, (and we may get flamed) but it is flat out unlistenable. I've simply never understood their popularity.

__________

Routinely and for years, I have. Without apologies. Some of my favorite roots rock. If you have not heard them play acoustically (yes, they did quite a bit of acoustic stuff), then your opinion is based on a ridiculously inadequate sampling of their music.

I went to my fair share of their concerts from 72-81 or so, and while I thought the ‘scene’ was kind of silly, their music was not.

What did one Deadhead say to the other after the drugs wore off?

"Man, this band sucks."

There are numerous Deadheads here on FR. Also Ann Coulter is an avowed Deadhead.

I go back to 1966 when the dead used to rock the house with jams like Barefootin’,In The Midnight Hour and Spoonfull.
Hardly souless tunes.
