U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton, a friend of W, is making the rounds defending every aspect of his case against Ramos and Compean. He's got an answer for every question. The only problem is that when he's finished answering the questions and demeaning the character of these two agents in every way imaginable, his official actions still reek of rank injustice.
He doesn't understand that. Bush doesn't get it. But the American people, members of Congress, Democrats and Republicans alike, look at what he did in the case candidly, honestly and objectively and conclude it was wrong just plain wrong.
It was Sutton's decision, he says, to choose to prosecute the agents under 924(c)(1)(a). He admits he had the discretion to do otherwise. Clearly this was not a law intended to be used against police officers. Yet that is exactly how it was used by the Justice Department in this case.
If it was used against Ramos and Compean, in full public view, with the whole nation watching in stunned amazement, it will certainly be used against other law enforcement agents in the future.

Ping.
I truly believe the President cannot, in his mind, picture these newer illegal aliens as different then the previous generation. The generations are different in fact and that difference is what underlies the national distaste for illegals.
Unable to come to grip with the facts, the President lashes out.
Bush is not naive.
I totally agree with you. Bush may think along those lines. But... to believe the leader of the Free World uses that sentiment alone, to foist 20+ million illegals upon the USA, back them up to the point of imprisoning border patrol agents for shooting a drug runner in the behind, and promoting open borders, IS incredibly naive.
I believe that the amnesty bill was a Bush effort to offer that trust. What compromises had to be made to get congress an board included measures that gave rights to people that had already abused the trust.
I am not unaware of the businesses that profit on illegal immigration and the power they wield as a block.
I am firmly opposed to all illegal immigrants and believe that immediate arrest and deportation coupled with a secure boarder and heavy penalties on employers are required.
The poster asked for responses on what could Bush’s motivation. I believe that both his Christian faith and his background in west Texas has a profound impact on his actions
Well...there you have it...
..for me, he has abused that trust...
...you say part of his reasoning for the 'amnesty bill' is his Christian faith.
I am a Christian.....one of the millions of his 'base' who now think he & Rove used our trusting nature to snucker us.
Forgive yes....we are called to do that, and leave judgment to God.
But we are not called to be doormats and let nefarious schemes thrive.
I have lost faith in George Bush.....not God.
God is sovereign....
This happened for a reason...and I think God is trying to warn us before it IS too late, if we will heed the warning.
George Bush's 'base'....(millions of them Christian) literally begged and beseeched him to listen to us, to not ignore us...
..and yet he DID ignore us and belittled us.
I hope desperately this wake-up call will spur the 'base' to unite for a good, Godly, true conservative for 2008.
My sentiments exactly. So well said!

nuff said.
“Clearly these cops screwed the pooch not reporting their shots, but you have to wonder what is up with Bush.”
This is not true from what I have read and saw on TV. Their superiors were at the scene after the shoot and they did a verbal report to one of their superiors. Apparently, this verbal report of the shoot is good enough and the superior is supposed to put that in his report.
Border patrol. The only government agency that I don’t beleive is armed enough. As far as I’m concerned, these guys/gals can be armed to the teeth to protect our border from invaders...
“Bush doesnt have the hatred of service or hatred of LE a liberal would exhibit. Something is driving him to it.”
The belief is that it is pressure coming from the Mexican government to put the clamps on our border patrol. Though I don’t understand what the exact pressure is. So take that with a grain of salt.
