Fred Thompson Wins Georgetown County Straw Poll

PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC--Former U.S. Senator Fred Thompson convincingly won the Georgetown County Republican Party presidential primary straw poll today with 46% of the votes, while second and third place finishers Congressman Ron Paul and Governor Mitt Romney had 18% and 17% respectively.

Georgetown County Republican Party Chairman Tom Swatzel said, "Senator Fred Thompson and his committee are to be congratulated for their efforts today. It's clear his supporters are well organized and motivated."

Congressman Gresham Barrett represented Thompson at the event.

Swatzel said that there were 223 total votes cast and that overall the event was attended by about 250 people. "For our first ever straw poll, I am pleased with the turn out. It was an enthusiastic crowd that was the essence of grassroots politics at its best," he said.

All eleven of the active presidential campaigns recognized on the state Republican Party web site- plus Thompson, who is expected to formally announce his candidacy soon- were invited to participate the event, which was held in the Waccamaw High School auditorium in Pawleys Island.

The overall results are as follows:

Fred Thompson 102
Ron Paul 40
Mitt Romney 37

Duncan Hunter 15
Rudy Giuliani 13
John McCain 7
Sam Brownback 6
Newt Gingrich 2
Daniel Gilbert 1

First of all, I wasn’t here during the Clintoon era, and I just checked and neither was BlackElk... However, I don’t consider Whitewater a conspiracy in the sense of the CFR/Trilaterals/Buildacheeseburgers international control the world conspiracy, it was simple criminal action that thousands are put in jail for every year... and I don’t buy into the Vince Foster death type conspiracy, it’s only fun to laugh about.

As for debunking the CFR conspiracies, you must have missed it because I’ve done so several times including showing that, for example, the infamous NAU document has lots of counter documents by the CFR that everyone ignores..

Finally, this is not a ‘government conspiracy’ that is being accused, it is a conspiracy of people ‘behind the curtain’ controlling the government that we are discrediting.

When all that was needed was an adequate supply of antiwar AntiAmerican al Qaeda apologist types, one school bus from Berserkely or its equivalent and 40 sawbucks to finish second??

We are bringing out all those Flower Power buses we've had stored ever since the Sixties in our secret underground fortresses in Idaho and Oklahoma. No straw poll is safe from the Paulian Horde.

Bwahahahaha!!!

"..he is behind the NWO conspiracy.."

Who's behind it, Fred?

All by himself?

I can't buy into that one. Fred hasn't even been a member long enough to be behind the conspiracy. It was begun looong before Fred was in it.

And I thought the nickname of "Dr No" belonged to Ron Paul, not Fred Thompson.

"..counter documents by the CFR.."

Note; the first order of business in a conspiracy is to convince everyone that it doesn't exist. I see they have convinced you.

"..it is a conspiracy of people ‘behind the curtain’ controlling the government that we are discrediting."

Better keep on trying to discredit it then, because it hasn't worked yet.

"..stored ever since the Sixties.."

I'm calling all my aging hippie friends, and chartering a plane.

We'll be there with bells on our toes.

And flowers in our hair.

Oops, no hair. Flowers in our lapels.

The Rudys, the the Mitts, and yes, even the Freds don't stand a chance against us.

“What these little straw polls show is name recognition, the intensity of support for candidates, a hint of their prospects at recruiting and building a local grassroots effort. But not a lot more than that.”

That looks like a LOT for a straw poll to show. Those items are very important.

We have spent a lot of time in the Carolinas...between Greater Greenville, SC and Winston-Salem, NC particularly.
South Carolina common people in general are some of the most conservative, patriotic Americans I know.

Not surprised. I’m sure the Council on American Islamic Relations will roll the buses for paleoPaulie as well. Considering his politically suicidal role as mouthpiece and all purpose apologist for Al Qaeda, the Islamofascisti owe him big time.

Designer: Ron Paul is Dr. Demento as anyone listening to his surrender now stance knows.

Don't forget your love beads either. Remember that paleoPaulie is telling us that the magic of free trade will make the Islamofascisti love us. You know, we sell them plastique for every day use. They sell us garbanzo beans and hummus. We sell them the rope....

But, ummmm, whatever Birchers may imagine, Bill Clinton was at the heart of genuine conspiracies and Dubya is not. Dubya is basically a good guy who is being attacked by a coalition suffering Bush Derangement Syndrome and not all of that coalition are on the left. We also have the delusional neo-isolationist surrender monkeys and wild-eyed CFR hunters. Problems with the Arkansas Antichrist were a lot more serious than membership in a few elitist debating societies and policy wonk groups: problems like transferring nuclear weapons technology to red china and to the friends of the friends of paleoPaulie. Has it ever occurred to the Bircher set that no one has taken them seriously from day one and that no one ever will and that the leadership has degenerated badly since the days of Robert Welch and John Rousselot????

Whitewater was dirty. Vince Foster was no suicide. I don't know for sure about Ron Brown but I remember a woman in the military who handled his corpse at the crash scene claiming that he had a hole in his forehead that looked .45 caliber. Mena was quite plausible. I am a LOT more concerned as to Slick Willie transferring nuclear weapons technology to our enemies than I am as to his receipt of campaign funds through Johnny Huang.

I do not believe in theories of alleged moral equivalency. Iran has no right to nuclear weapons to be used against OUR allies or OURSELVES. If we have to nuke Iran or Israel has to nuke Iran to put a stop to this insanity, so be it. There is no moral equivalency between us and them, whatever it may please Dr. Demento (paleoPaulie) to fantasize. I really don't care about any moral equivalency that Ahmadinejad or his paleoPaulie type supporters care to make. I don't care about the eternal whining, moaning and kvetching out of the paleowhatevers and there is no moral equivalency between the paleowhatevers and actual sane human beings. Go vote for whichever delusional nutcases you may choose. Conservatives will do the heavy lifting to preserve Western Civilization while you guys picnic with paleoPaulie patting yourselves on the back for being the perfectionists that you aren't.

If sophisticated minds are those who see an international banker under every bed, a conspiracy to build some North American highway or to trade in American sovereignty for a North American Union, I will have no problem being unsophisticated when, as in your imagination, sophistication is obviously code for being nuts.

It will be a joy to hammer your surrender monkey El Ron Paulie into the dustbin of history when the real primaries and caucuses begin next year.

Also, don't flatter yourself or other surrender monkey supporters by trademark infringement in which the neo-Neville Chamberlains imagine themselves either patriots or conservatives. Your beloved paleoPaulie, surrender monkey extraordinaire is not known as Dr. Demento for nothing. He has earned that totaled as a lifetime "showhorse not workhorse" achievement award. Of course it is best that demented peace creeps NOT be workhorses.

Thanks for all of your great posts.

A friend of mine wrote a parody song about 40 years ago to the tune of The First Noel and the punchline was: "We'll eat Bilderbergers with ketchup for lunch!"

Now, I do admit that I don't believe Vince Foster was a suicide but that is a small matter compared to our paleowhatevers siding with our nation's enemies in time of war.

May God bless you and yours.

Conservatives are conservatives.

Libertoonians are Libertoonians.

"Paleos" are alien space critters who have no place in the conservative movement or in the real world.

I have been active in the conservative movement since 1964 and was a Reagan state chairman when he challenged Feckless Ford in 1976.

To what do you attribute your own ignorance, rudeness and mental state in supporting Dr. Demento for POTUS???
