White House enforces strict dress code for tourists

WASHINGTON New signs are posted around the White House indicating a new strict enforcement of the dress code, the Washington Post reported Thursday. The code applies to all visitors and staff members, including tourists.

Some tourists are finding the strict clothing restrictions at the White House un-American.

The forbidden items include jeans, sneakers, mini-skirts, t-shirts, tank tops and absolutely no flip flops.

The motivation for the clothing crack-down comes from the Bush Administration who think some of those who work there and those who visit just don't dress appropriately.

I have only ever made it to Washington D.C. once in my entire life, and I don’t know if I will ever make it back.

Reminds me of how Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton showed respect for the Oval Office as an institution.

Ronald Reagan always wore his suit jacket and tie while in the Oval Office.

The White House isn’t a ride at Disneyland. If you want to visit, show a minimum of respect.

And GWB isn't king. He lives rent free in a house that we pay for. And since he got elected on the rolled-up-shirtsleeves blue-collar man-of-the-people act, I find banning blue jean-clad visitors a bit comical.

The WH is a seat of power and can do just fine without frivolously dressed, camera toting tourists.

I was in DC last week as a tourist and what I wore would have been appropriate to go into the White House. This is not an unbearable burden.

If I were going to be a visitor, rather than a tourist, I would want to be even more dressed up.

A couple of months ago, I was at Versailles, outside of Paris, and they were ejecting a young lady because her shoulders were bare. They were saying that she knew what was appropriate before she entered. Our guide was in total support.

When we go to the Vatican soon I will have to wear a long skirt and cover my shoulders. I will just go back to the hotel and change clothes for the rest of the days events.
