There has been a lot talk about the LDS on the News/Activism forum for several months now, so you are invited to come and investigate & listening for yourselves!

“Appropriate Dress
Those who attend will most likely be wearing their “Sunday best,” which may include suits, sport coats, and ties for the men and dresses or skirts for the women. Children also typically dress up for Sunday. “
Am I accepted or condemned if I show up in a collard shirt and long shorts?

rest,
Is a ward an individual church or a group of churches like the equivalent of a Catholic diocese?

We do not pass a plate to request donations as part of our worship services.
All members are expected to pay 10% of their income for tithing. Towards the end of the year it is common for the bishop to have meetings with members to make sure they paid an honest tithing.
Then there are the guys who come to your door for building funds and lets not forget fasting money.
If members do not pay an honest tithing they can not get a temple recommend which means no celestial kingdom.

all Church service is voluntary
Being asked to do service in the church is considered 'a calling'. No matter how impossible some callings are (yes some members get lucky and have multiple callings) you are expected to do the service. God will find a way as long as you are faithful enough.
If you happen to have a jerk of a bishop or SP your temple recommend could be on the line if you start refusing callings the Lord has told the elders of the church you need.
Then again your eternal salvation is messed up if you lose your temple recommend. No celestial kingdom. You will cause your family much pain by not having an eternal family.

My curiousity is not about the Sunday meetings at the local meeting house. I wonder about what happens in the big cathedrals.
I toured the one in San Diego before it opened and we had a wonderful guide who attempted to answer our questions but the only thing I really learned was that Mormans in good standing were the only ones allowed in the cathedral and to be a Morman in good standing one needed to tithe.
What I want to know is why there are two wings to the Cathedral, one for the women and one for the men. We were only allowed in the female side. We were also curious about the changing room for women. No one asked if this was where the women put on the funny underwear or if the funny underwear is a part of worship or just an internet legend.

Many people around here have had a lot of negative things to say about the LDS. My only beef is that those young men keep coming to my house every month it seems like. I’m not sure how to get them to stop coming. I thought maybe if I offered them a beer?

Who is that long-haired person in the blue ad at the top of the thread?
