Well, we headed off that environmental disaster pretty handily. Wouldn't you say? One of the "solutions" at the time was to drop soot onto the ice caps, the idea being that the black material would absorb the Sun's energy and melt the excess ice. They blamed atmospheric soot for blocking sunlight and creating the conditions that would lead to the 'new' ice age.
