Republicans are losing elections because they have lost their base. Their ineptness during the Bill Frist years was criminal. Four years of Democratic ranting and raving and these clowns did nothing but sit on their hands. And to top it off they crawled into bed with the swimmer with that stupid amnesty bill. What we have to do is rid ourselves of these sheep and elect conservatives that have a spine. We need people in the mold of Newt Gingrich before he blew it and Tom Delay. Some lazy ass senators need to have their heads handed to them. John McCain and Lindsey Graham would be a good start.

One major problem lies in how we elect party leaders...it’s too slow a process with indirect representation. Martinez should be replaced with Gingrich as of yesterday.

I don’t know if you are right or not about the general trend, but your post certainly resonates with me and why I don’t give money anymore when the RP folks call me up.

Amnesty was only the final straw after years of out of control spending.
I became apathetic when Bush signed on with the prescription for seniors. I’ve seen how some of these “poor” seniors live and it irks me that my kids will be paying for their medicine when they’re perfectly capable of buying their own meds.

I’m disappointed republicans did not run a better campaign for privatizing social security. This shouldn’t have been a partisan issue. It is the only way to help the system without having to drastically mess with the benefits or age of payout.

The Bush administration has flunked miserably with out of control spending.
He gets an A- on pro-life issues.
He gets a B on tax cuts (should have cut them even more)
F on Amnesy
F on prescriptions for seniors.
F on presenting conservative ideas to the public in an appealing/persuasive manner.

I don’t know why republicans like Newt.
If we are going to try and appeal to families and stable values we are going to have to find that rare political creature - a politician who actually lives the values he promotes.

What we have to do is rid ourselves of these sheep and elect conservatives ...

I agree but for me to help in that effort I would have to move and that isn't going to happen. I'm blessed with state and congressional conservative Republlican representation.

Last Thursday our state representative came for a lunch meeting to give a report on the recent state legislature. There were about 35 people present including several elected Dems. He started his report by saying, "I'm a right-wing conservative and offer no apologies. I'm proud to have been voted one of the most conservative members of the TX Legislature." He never minces words; ask him a question and you're going to get an answer --doesn't matter who agrees or disagrees.

He " retired" for one term and ran again due to public pressure after being replaced one term by a RINO. A lot of the pressure for him to run again came from elected Dems who told him that they didn't always agree with him but at least they could TRUST him to do what he said. He NEVER said one thing and did another like the RINO had done.

They have lost part of thier base, they have made mistakes, they have become institutionalized and they have lost the center. The center is not won it is lost, and right now we are losing it. Reagan won it primarily because the lib nut cakes lost it. Don’t count on that happening again. we need good alternatives to the Dem’s. we need to be aggressive in confronting the MSM and finding alternative media. And develop a strategy to win. To do that we need to be looking down the road for the next generation and not living in the past and being involved in the kind of messaging that worked in the past but does not work now.
