Reports indicate that the pilot who was killed was flying a P-51B. There were only 3 P-51Bs in flying condition.
Not to mention China killing all of those pigeons.
I wonder if this was the guy that built a B from scratch. He was a Montana resident.
Here she is..( Also know as a "Razorback", prior to the use of the now famous "bubble " canopy)
RIP guys, you went out doing what you loved
I doubt it. From the descriptions, I think I know who was killed.
I think I know of the guy who built an A model from scratch, with an Allison. He was in that movie about Reno that hasn't been released yet that they filmed last year. This was during an "air race" demonstration, so it was one of the race guys.

Yah, it was an A and the guy was from N. Dakota. Don’t know if it is one of those that crashed.
Thanks for the pics. My hubby is there right now! I missed a call from him earlier. This is no doubt why he was calling me.
Did Willi Messerschmidt leave Germany before/during WWII?
A friend took me over the Rocky Mountains in his P-51 several years ago. It was one of the most thrilling days of my life.
May the families of those who perished today find some consolation and peace in their beliefs.
Looking at post # 13, it appears to be the “A” model homebuilt. Note the 3 blade prop and the green underwing paint.
That’s an amazing photo! Are there more pics where you found that one?
May God be with the loved ones affected, and also with all those who witnessed the crash.
Sweet! I hope you know that you're making many of us green with envy.
Both have 4 props...
Aw, don’t want to turn anybody green! ;-)
It was a tight squeeze, and the air was VERY thin. But the precision and manuvering was incredible and breath-taking! I think the Mustang is probably one of the finest planes ever made. (JMHO)
I only see three blades on one, four blades on the other.
