Many owners of older TV sets who still receive free, over-the-air broadcasts are unaware that their sets will no longer function after Feb. 17, 2009 without a settop converter, lawmakers observed at a Washington D.C. hearing on Thursday.
Cable viewers will not be affected
I’ve 5 tv’s in my house, all connected to a rooftop antennae. I get about 15 channels. It’s enough. Though sometimes I would like to see Discovery or History Channels.
My hubby the Chief doesn’t believe me about this. Thanks for posting rvoitier.

Mine already is. Has been since 2003.
When can I get my vouchers?
Bump that!
This transition is a much bigger deal, though, as the black and white TVs could still show the color broadcasts, just still in black and white...this change will make the TVs obsolete.
Hey, I thought it was supposed to be a $50 voucher.
“Between Jan. 1, 2008, and March 31, 2009, all U.S. households will be eligible to request up to two coupons, worth $40 each, to be used toward the purchase of up to two, digital-to-analog converter boxes, while the initial $990 million allocated for the program is available. If NTIA requests the additional $510 million already authorized by Congress, then coupon requests during this “contingent period” will be limited exclusively to over-the-air households. Details on how to apply for the Coupon Program and our 1-800 number will be established later in 2007.”

“oooooooo...ewwww....Theez people have never touched beautiful things....oooooo...Let them one time in their lifes...Touch the beautiful theeengs!
Hey Celine, touch this!ha.
I still have rabbit ears. Not as bad as Obama’s mind you.
>Let them touch something beautiful for once!!!
1) Open those doors to your house Celine!
2) They have kids and wives don’t they? That’s beauty.
Nope, I read where they (congress) is debating a $50 rebate on your income tax to offset having to buy a new TV. Aint nothing free.
Who cares?
Haven’t watched TV since 1995. No time anymore. Don’t miss it.
We don’t even have cable. I get my news online and my kids don’t watch public TV much at all. Movies that we already own or we rent some.
Shoot, I still miss listening to Gunsmoke and Amos & Andy on the radio.
Speaking of touched!! Celine Dion!! touched!! Sorry I couldn’t resist.
Have you tried finding a really old radio.
LOL!!!!
HAR HAR!!
“This sucks. I still have rabbit ears in my kitchen.”
Depending on how far you are from a transmitter, you may be able to pick up digital (and high definition programming) with those rabbit ears. I had a pair of amplified rabbit ears hooked up to a HD receiver feeding my HDTV, and I got an excellent picture on several HD channels (but can’t anymore since I’ve moved further out).
BTW, over the air high def signals are usually better quality than cable due to the fact the cable channels feature so much compression to squeeze in as many channels as possible.
