If what Private Scott Thomas Beauchamp wrote in the New Republic isn't true, he's in trouble, and so is the magazine.
If what Pvt. Beauchamp wrote is true, he's in bigger trouble.
Pvt. Beauchamp is the Baghdad Diarist whose July 13 article, written under the clever pseudonym "Scott Thomas," drew much skepticism.
Pvt. Beauchamp described how he made fun of a woman whose face had been severely scarred by an IED: "I love chicks that have been intimate with IEDS," Pvt. Beauchamp quotes himself as saying, loudly, to his buddies in the chow hall. "It really turns me on -- melted skin, missing limbs, plastic noses."
"My friend was practically falling out of his chair laughing," Pvt. Beauchamp recounted. "The disfigured woman slammed her cup down and ran out of the chow hall."
Next he described finding the remains of children in a Saddam-era mass grave uncovered when his unit was constructing a combat outpost: "One private...found the top part of a human skull...He marched around with the skull on his head...No one was disgusted. Me included."
Finally, Pvt. Beauchamp described another friend "who only really enjoyed driving Bradley Fighting Vehicles because it gave him the opportunity to run things over. He took out curbs, concrete barriers, corners of buildings, stands in the market, and his favorite target: dogs."
Pvt. Beauchamp described how his friend killed three dogs in one day: "He slowed the Bradley down to lure the first kill in, and, as the diesel engine grew quieter, the dog walked close enough for him to jerk the machine hard to the right and snag its leg under the tracks."
The New Republic's editors told Michael Goldfarb of the Weekly Standard the chow hall incident occurred at Forward Operating Base Falcon near Baghdad.

He’s lying through his teeth.
This smacks of kerry’s winter soldier crap.
The horror! Honestly, who knew The New Republic was even still published?
The kid probably grew up thinking that making up stories about your fellow soldiers committing atrocities was the first step on the path to becoming a US Senator.
He’s a victim of the system, I tells ya!
“Pvt Beauchamp is probably wishing he never wrote those articles for his Fiancee’s TNR. I am sure his CO is making him feel like the piece of sh!t he is about now.”
I’m SO happy to not be Beauchamp right now. If anything goes wrong today I’ll just stick with that thought. His life is going to be a living hell for a loooong time. And boy does he deserve it! =:-D
Gee, what a clever pseudonym . . . Charles Dickens he ain’t.
The army guys I know HATE Bradleys because they are death traps. NO ONE enjoys riding in them.
making up stories
One wonders how many times TNR can be “fooled” by its writers before even they realize they no longer have any credibility.
“It breaks no military rule to BS gullible liberal journalists.”
This line is actually completely inaccurate. Soldiers are not allowed to talk to the press without the prior consent of their commanding officer.
At least that was the way it was when I was in.
Oh, yeah - my favorite line for this Blue Falcon:
“I suspect Pvt. Beauchamp soon will be the guest of honor at a blanket party.”
Yep, he’s lying. And the New Republic needs to be sued out of business for printing this crap.
I’m sure he’ll be treated 10 times better than the Hadita Marines.
He’s bucking for a court martial ... or a job at the New York Times.
Are you Jack Kelly?
TNR was ‘fooled’ because Pvt Beauchamp is ENGAGED to TNR staffer Elspeth Reeve. TNR found a willing soldier, whose liberal views were well known when he was editor of his college newspaper and actively campaigned for HOWARD DEAN. He was exactly the kind of ‘on the ground correspondent’ they were looking for. I would not be surprised if when checking the e-mail exchanges he had with TNR and his soon to be wife who works there, that they encouraged him to write the most sensational stories possible. Beauchamp is just channeling John Kerry’s Christmas in cambodia stories and his tales of our soldiers acting as ‘Ghengis Khan’
Does the Army have a ‘Code Red’?
I know those of us on the right keep reminding people of this fact, but just in case some were not old enough to know this, I think it should be repeated until it echoes constantly.
Dishonesty and a steady stream of propaganda has been a powerful tool for the left to manipulate the emotions of young impressionable Americans. The college campus has become a zone of sanctioned intimidation against normal American youths and these types of stories are printed with the purpose of fueling this intimidation, hoping to feed the leftist students feeling of justification for their own intolerance and wrecklessness against traditional America.
The left does not share the conservative's view of accountability before a righteous God. Their only purpose in life is to destroy our national foundations, while shoving a destructive and discreditted culture and government into its place.
I have watched in disbelief as the left has repeatedly gone on the offensive against our way of life, implementing anarchist and marxist tactics as they violated any sense of honor and decency.
You see, ethics and rules are not in the left's red book and they have replaced God with the ravings of lunatics and prevaricators.

Perhaps a little help with his personal hygiene. First there is the scrub down of the forked portion of the third member, both front and rear, with a stiff bristle garbage can brush. To prevent infection of any “collateral damage” abrasions a liberal amount of turpentine is applied. This is over-coated with some good thick molasses to insure the turpentine adhere real good. Prior to this turn off the water in the shower stalls.
Sombody needs to put this SOB on point for the remainder of his career. The rest of the patrol can hang WAY BACK!
