NASA worker caught in act of sabotage on ISS bound computer Posted Jul 26th 2007 5:33PM by Joshua Topolsky Filed under: Transportation

According to breaking news from NASA, a space program worker is alleged to have deliberately damaged a computer that was meant to fly aboard the Endeavor in less than two weeks, in an apparent act of sabotage. NASA says the unnamed individual, who works for one of the space agency's subcontractors, cut wires inside a computer that was headed to the International Space Station (ISS) on the shuttle. The alleged tampering occurred outside of NASA operations in Florida, but the agency isn't naming the subcontractor or where exactly the incident took place. The agency hopes to fix the damage and launch the Endeavor August 7th, as planned. As this appears to be the first ever report of sabotage on the space program, you can expect to hear a lot more on this story in the very near future.

Name was withheld. Yes, for some initial legal reasons. But what is it in me that just can’t wait to see a name?!

Possible scenarios:

- The perp is being questioned intensively to find others involved;

- The media is spiking the story because a Leftist is involved;

- the total lack of the usual “There Is No Terrorism Involved” announcement might show that there is;

Yep, hopefully it’s scenario A, and it’s just some isolated kook.

Most likely, it’s 3. option 2 isn’t that likely, cause a lot of NASA is full of leftists anyway, as much as I support it.

I’ll guess it’s most likely A, and possibly C (ie jihadism).

Why would anyone feel the need to purposely sabotage the ISS? Half of it was made in Russia, what is there left to do?!

If it was the part made in Russia how would you tell if it was sabotaged? It probably does not work anyway.

I say we allow him to fly in the shuttle ... in the cargo bay ... without a spacesuit.

Joshua Topolsky must moonlight as a sign painter at NASA.

Time to get serious about these "insurgents".

This guy should be forced to take paid leave for 3 days and spend 5 years doing community service and take a lie detector test.(sentence to be served: promising not to try and do it again)/s

Let’s get real. This is not just an act of sabotage.

This is attempted murder.

From another article:

The worker also damaged a similar computer that was not meant to fly in space, Gerstenmaier said. (1-1/2 weeks ago)

Gerstenmaier did not identify the subcontractor or where the damage took place. The subcontractor notified NASA 1 1/2 weeks ago about the matter, as soon as it discovered the damage to the non-flying computer.

Gerstenmaier declined to provide any information on the employee or company, but stressed that the tampering had nothing to do with an ongoing strike at the space center by a machinists union. He said the damage occurred outside Florida.

Whoever sabotaged this computer also sabotaged another one 1.5 weeks ago.
