In the past few months, I've traveled the country talking and listening to folks. I've been discussing where I see America going, about what we need to do to keep our nation secure, what we must do to keep this remarkable economy growing, and the challenges we must address together for the next generation of Americans.
I believe the United States is at a crossroads, and what I'm hearing on the road is that a lot of people agree with me. They're ready to move forward together to meet our challenges here at home and abroad. They aren't buying into the defeatist talk about our security, our economy, and our future.
During this "testing the waters" effort we've undertaken, I've been saying the political waters feel pretty warm. It's allowed us to start laying the foundation of a good team across the country and to keep up this national conversation we've been having. Now we're going to take that conversation to a different level.
On Tuesday, August 7th, we're inaugurating a new weekly "I'm With Fred" email, complete with news, updates, and photos from the road. We're also working on the ImWithFred website 2.0, in order to keep in touch on a daily basis and to give you more opportunities to join us at events, help us organize, and spread the word about our efforts.
I'm excited about what I'm seeing out on the road. I appreciate everything you're doing for our effort.
Sincerely,
Fred Thompson
I don't mind the hiring of Bush people, so much, since some of them are pretty decent. I can't remember his name, but he hired one of the authors of Bush's original tax cuts.
I understand how frustrating it is to wait, though, for Fred's announcement. Right now I support him because he seems to have a good understanding of Conservative ideas (and can articulate them very well.) For me, that is test #1, and he passes with flying colors.
When Fred finally announces I will reevaluate my support of him based on test #2, his policy platform. Until that happens, I happily support him based on test #1.
The main thing is to beat Hillary. I will vote for Rudy against Hillary if push comes to shove.
How many “free throws” does Fred get from his supporters?
I concur this “Defender of the Melting Pot” award appears to be a complete fabrication by National Review. All other mention is after that article, none before. And the La Raza award to congresscritters is called the Capital Award.
“Then ask the obvious: why are so many FReepers willing to throw rabid support to someone who won’t tell them specifically what he would do if elected?”
His past, both words and deeds. He’s the most conservative, electable candidate we have and to believe otherwise defies rational.
A perfectly valid question. See reply 61.
And there is no mention of that award prior to that article. No mention on the La Raza website. The award they give to congresscritters is called the Capital Award.
I can understand that point of view. I like Fred on his merits, not because I think he’s better positioned to win (which I also believe). And his number one merit, to my way of thinking, is that he is an extremely articulate conservative, which is what we need. After 8 years of a basically good guy stumbling over his reasons for defending America from the treason of the left, we need someone who can tell the world WHY.
Cheney maybe, but its the DU and the rest of the looney left that believe Rove has any signicant effect on policy.Washington Post: Rove Is Promoted To Deputy Staff Chief
He is a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Hoover Institution and founded the official journal of the Federalist Society. Yea, he’s a jihadist alright.
All I can find is this one opinion piece by Mark Krikorian, with no sourcing, making this claim about the “Defender of the Melting Pot Award”. It has then been picked up by everyone else. I’m always dubious of folks who don’t provide citations.

Are you being obtuse or what? He was “promoted” to that position. When Thompson promotes Abraham to Deputy Staff Chief you can bitch.
Rudy Derangement, followed by Fred Derangement; peppered with a “any republican that has a snowball’s chance in hell of winning” derangement. I really wonder about some people.
The requirement for my passionate support for any candidate is that he or she is a genuine and electable conservative, preferably without RINO tendencies.
Looking at the links you sent me, I can see how you reached your conclusion. If it is any consolation, of the potential GOP front runners, Thompson remains has one of the better records on immigration- although his recent hiring of Spencer Abraham is cause for concern.
All the best,
Jeremy
You need to post a thread on this, and ping all the gnats to it.
“Abraham was one of only two U.S. Senators who refused to sign an October 2000 letter to President Clinton condemning terrorist acts by Yasser Arafat and the P.L.O.”
