I believe that there are many here who don't want to have to pick between a new McCain and a new W.

We're hoping for better, but don't want to run ourselves. It's still a long time until the next election and there is other political work that has a higher priority than figuring out now who the next POTUS should be.

Well, why are you on a thread about a primary (soon to be announced) candidate?

“I believe that there are many here who don’t want to have to pick between a new McCain and a new W.”

So? we go with the field we have and not the field we want.

Fred Thompson = McCain-lite w/out the immigration/gang-of-14 baggage and history of bashing conservatives.
Mitt Romney = W. (with Harvard MBA), but smarter, sharper, better-looking and actually *articulate*.

And if you don’t like them you can go for:
Hunter = Better-than-Buchanan-ever-was
Ron Paul = Out-flanks any other small govt libertarian

So, on the one hand this is depressing, but on the other hand this is liberating. We actually have a better field than in 2000 (we just didn’t know it back then).
