Bogota - Colombian authorities seized a homemade submarine allegedly used by drug traffickers for smuggling in Pacific waters in the north-western Choco province on the Panamanian border.
'This type of boat had a capacity to transport approximately four tonnes of cocaine hydrochloride in its interior,' the Colombian Navy said in a statement Wednesday.
The vessel is the third submarine seized by Colombian authorities on the Pacific coast.
The Navy noted that four people were arrested, and the authorities also seized a radio, a portable energy generator and other elements.
According to the official source, drug gangs have used this and other methods to transport illegal substances to destinations in Central and North America.
What are those pipes at the top? Was this thing able to fully submerge?
Thanks for the alert, kinda makes me nervous, glad I don’t live on the coast.
Ever heard of people smuggling corn syrup or flour across borders? How about on a sub? Ever heard of someone stealing and killing over these products?
We need to build an underwater fence, and a giant bubble dome that covers our entire country.
This isn’t the first time a sub has been found. The WOD is starting to take on unusual permutations.
I may be way off, but I think those may be some sort of muffler system to keep the sub quiet when it’s on top of the water.
I so much as a kid wanted one of these Polaris Nuclear Submarine sold in comic books... According to the ad it fires rockets and torpedoes, it is over 7 feet long, and it is big enough to take two kids on an underwater adventure they won’t soon forget.
