Orders for two new Royal Navy aircraft carriers have been confirmed by Defence Secretary Des Browne.
He said the £3.8bn contract would lead to the construction of the largest vessels ever sailed by the Royal Navy.
The new 65,000-tonne carriers - HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales - will enter service in 2014 and 2016.
Mr Browne said the work would support and create 10,000 jobs across the UK, including those at yards on the Clyde, Rosyth, Portsmouth and Barrow.

This is one of the few forms of government employment that is a good idea.
Anti gun Britain is a disgrace!
funny once man, but its getting tired now. I dont want people stiring up stuff on this thread.
In no uncertain terms I strongly disagree with all the points you have made in your post, and please refrain from anti-uk sentiment in my threads.
cheers.
Your there I’m here... who is in a position to fix the problem ?
I think 40 F35’s would hardly surrender without firing a shot. And don’t mistake government ordered rules of engagement with a warrior’s willingness to fight. In this age of satphones, I’m sure the ship’s captain was kept on a short leash. Royal Marines wouldn’t let their jack tar’s be taken away and be beaten up, that’s a marines job.
When your life is on the line, an experienced warrior shoots fist and consults the book in his spare time.
still kind of small by Nimitz class standards but it is an improvement over no carriers.
I’m not sure I would name one Prince of Wales, that didn’t work out to well the last time

You must be thinking about the current crop of liberal, surrender monkeys in the US congress.
Good call.
true, but maybe this one will have better fortunes!
will you guys ever appreciate something without having to compare it to your own?
Remember that the UK is similar in size to a US state. So imagine Idaho had its own 65,000 tonne carrier, or even two. And remember that the US spends more on its defence than the next few combined, and know that $8bn dollars for the most advanced carriers on the planet will be money well spent.
Also, the RN does have two carriers in service, a graphic of which is shown in comparison to the new CVF’s at the top of the thread. And a helicopter Landing Platform.
“will you guys ever appreciate something without having to compare it to your own?”
I like the Brits quite a bit, but come on - I can’t go a day in any forum on any topic where anything the U.S. has is generally compared - and unfavorably - to something someone else has. Everyone else always has the ‘right’ or ‘better’ or ‘funnier’ or ‘better written’ way, and so on and so forth.
thats as may be FRiend, but I’m just trying to get a response from a uk perspective. I can’t speak for other threads, but this one is trying to keep the fun and games to a minimum.
