Laurie David filed divorce papers citing "irreconcilable differences" with the "Curb Your Enthusiasm" TV comic. But there was speculation her sudden rise to fame from producing the Oscar-winning documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" had strained the 14-year marriage.
Spies have noticed activity at the Davids' sprawling 76-acre compound in the island's Chilmark neighborhood - which they call "Camp David."
"She creeps over at 11 p.m." to her barn where Thorpe is living, said one resident. Thorpe arrived at Camp David in March after moving out of the home he kept with his wife.
Chilmark residents said it all started when Thorpe and his now-estranged wife began hanging around with the Davids last summer. Thorpe and his father-in-law David Flanders had leased an additional parcel of land to the Davids. At the time, Thorpe was on the Davids' payroll to help develop the property.
The foursome ceased to spend time together when Larry, 59, returned home to Los Angeles at the end of the summer and Laurie stayed on the Vineyard.
By March, Thorpe was out of his home and living in the Davids' barn, said another resident who did not want to be named.
"Thorpe's father-in-law probably wants to take a fire ax to him," said the neighbor. "If it was my daughter that he fooled around on in this tiny community and made a jackass of himself, I'd have him committed."
Meanwhile, Thorpe, a Republican, is lately driving a hybrid car.
"Bart is so besotted he doesn't know which end is up," said a Chilmark resident, who did not want to be named. "He thinks Laurie David is the greatest person in the world. He says: 'She's single-handedly saving the planet.' It's like he's another person. It's sad. He had the greatest wife and a wonderful daughter."

Typical limo-lib.
Laurie David has been subject to persistent criticism for being less than consistent in her environmental positioning. In an interview with The Guardian in November of 2006, Ms. David acknowledged that owning two homes on opposite sides of the country and flying in a private jet several times per year is at odds with her message to others. In the interview she notes "Yes, I take a private plane on holiday a couple of times a year, and I feel horribly guilty about it. I probably shouldn't do it. But the truth is, I'm not perfect. This is not about perfection. I don't expect anybody else to be perfect either. That's what hurts the environmental movement holding people to a standard they cannot meet. That just pushes people away."[4]
Hypocrite!!
Jackie has been the peeble in the David's shoes since they arrived in Chilmark. Larry couldn't have invented a better character to torment him if he'd tried.
She blew the whistle on them building a firepit (carbon footprint anyone?)inside the buffer zone for wetlands without permits. They then blamed their contractor - presumably Mr. Thorpe for the "oversight" and then attempted to have the work approved after the fact. The Chilmark Conservation Commission said no way Jose and had them pull it out. There has also been the issue of a footbridge across the wetlands. I think a search at the Martha's Vineyard Times for Jackie's letters might prove amusing for anyone seeking further episodes of "Curb Your Environmentalism"
He took some cheap shots at Bush and republicans on his TV show...I stopped watching.
What? Where did you get that information? Rockwell and Sheehan?
“Who does that?”
A gold digger.
At his heart David is more Libertarian than “leftie”...the show is a testament to that. I love his un-pc stance on almost everything...his aversion to republicans is at best cultural. Even on the show, his wife “Cheryl”is always the driving force behind their environmental and charitable “altruism”.
Laurie better relish her 15 minutes of fame since she tied herself to a sicko like Gore.
He would fit right in in the Senate with Arlen Sphincter, George Voinobitch and the other limp wrist so called Republicans.
It was a woman got redistricted out, even though her district's population was stable or had an increase.
(I remember her whining on the news, and gerrymandering a safe district for Tip O'Neil - the guy the named an overpriced, dangerous, poorly constructed shaft that the taxpayers paid for.)
Mag Heckler was from Attleboro, don’t know if her district included the Cape. The Attleboro area was a lot more conservative than other parts of the PRM at that time. Ethnic shifts are making it increasingly more Hispanic.
Marrying a harridan like that would mean surrounding both your carbon credits and your balls.
The Cape was in the 10th, Gerry Studds’s (and now Bill Delahunt’s) district.
