“Zina died from a blow to the head” Prosecutors not seeking the death penalty.

Murder charges filed this afternoon against Terapon Adhahn:

Prosecutors charged a convicted sex offender Monday with kidnapping, raping and killing Zina Linnik, a 12-year-old girl who was snatched from an alley behind her family’s home during a July 4th fireworks celebration. According to the charging documents, Terapon Dang Adhahn led investigators to the girl’s body.

Zina died from a blow to the head, according to papers filed in Superior Court. Her body was found near Silver Lake in rural Pierce County, and authorities say Adhahn’s DNA was found on her.

Adhahn, a Thai immigrant, was scheduled to be arraigned later Monday. Pierce County Prosecutor Gerald Horne has not said whether he intends to seek the death penalty.

Zina was seized from behind her family’s home during a Tacoma fireworks display on July 4. Investigators said her father saw a gray van, and that his partial recollection of the license plate helped them track down Adhahn at a home south of Tacoma.

During their investigation, detectives said they uncovered two other victims: one who was kidnapped on her way to school in 2000 and another who lived with Adhahn as a teen. Adhahn is charged with rape in those cases, as well as failing to register as a sex offender. He pleaded not guilty to those counts on Thursday.

I would chime in with the standard “Just doing the...” quip, but this case is just too tragic for quips...

“Pierce County Prosecutor Gerald Horne has not said whether he intends to seek the death penalty.”

Huh?

We need to bring back lynch mobs.

detectives said they uncovered two other victims:

Tip of the iceberg. These creeps usually have multiple offenses before they're caught.

And he didn't start killing just last month.

Since the same deal was made with the Green River Killer, Gary Ridgway, the Death Penalty no longer exist in Washington State. Any defense lawyer is going to argue “my client only killed one person, you can’t execute him when you let a killer of 49 women off with life in prison”.

“Had enough?”

Michael Chertoff doesn’t think so.

Frankly, I’m surprised that vigilantes have not risen up and taken care of these people themselves.

Tip of the Iceberg maybe. When did this monster move to the Tacoma area? I think the same person killed these 2 Tacoma girls who were about the same age as Zina. I knew the Jennifer Bastian girl when I spent a year working at her school. This becomes personal when these monsters take someone you know.

• Michella Welch, 12, of Tacoma, whose body was found hours after the girl disappeared from Puget Park on March 26, 1986.

• Jennifer Bastian, 13, of Tacoma, who was found dead Aug. 28, 1986, in Point Defiance Park, where she’d been last seen riding her bicycle two weeks earlier.

I would hat to be the lawyer that would actually use the death penalty as a bargaining chip..i.e...your honor, if you waive the death penalty my client will give up the location of the body.

The way things are going, I think we're going to start seeing more of that kind of stuff going on. I recall hearing about some registered sex offender who was killed a while ago, and nobody seemed real interested in finding out who did it.

By not sentencing him to death, he’ll be in with the general population, and I hear those guys really don’t like kid killers.

You don’t understand the socialist mind. Nothing will change even if socialists become victims. Their minds don’t operate logically. Their world is a fantasy world where cause and effect are disconnected and those who disagree with their make believe world are the sole cause of all the worlds suffering.

Socialism is a religion whose followers accept it’s failed policies as a matter of faith. No amount of logic or experience will change their minds.

Since the same deal was made with the Green River Killer, Gary Ridgway, the Death Penalty no longer exist in Washington State. Any defense lawyer is going to argue “my client only killed one person, you can’t execute him when you let a killer of 49 women off with life in prison”.

Malkin links to a Seattle P-I article indicating that the prosecutor agreed in advance to waive the death penalty in exchange for Adhahn leading them to the girl's body. A body with his DNA on it. Plus confessions to two other rapes.

So they gave up the possibility of an execution in exchange for a pretty damn certain life sentence without parole. In exchange for skipping the needle, Adhahn handed them a conviction on a silver platter with a sprig of parsley. Works for me.

Ridgeway pleaded guilty to every count, gave a full allocution, and led the investigators to remains so their families could give the girls a decent burial. If I were asked to give up the possibility of the death penalty in exchange for the certainty of life without parole, I'd be hard-pressed to pass that up. Justice served, threat gone, and the perp gets a few decades in hell on Earth to prepare him for the real deal. I'm okay with that.

In the vast majority of cases in any state, if you're willing to plead and take life without parole, you can escape execution. Juries are always a little unoredictable, and if you turn down such a deal, there's always the risk that one juror will have qualms about capital punishment, and you'll spend months and millions to achieve the same result. Bird in the hand, two in the bush.

I'd like to believe this, I really would. But, I don't hear of too many notorious child killers or molesters getting shanked. Fact is, Dahmer is the only one I know, offhand. Pot heads and check kiters who cross the wrong invisible line in the yard, maybe.

Mere execution would be too light a punishment for that brute.
