For the past 15 years, our politics has been a civil war between two halves of the baby boom generation (generally taken to include those born between 1946 and 1964). We have had two presidents who were born in 1946 and graduated from high school in the class of 1964, which had the highest test scores in history.
Both those presidents happened to have personal characteristics that people on the opposite sides of the culture war absolutely loathe. We first saw the acrimony of the boomer civil war in the 1992 vice presidential debate between Dan Quayle (born 1947) and Al Gore (born 1948). We see it in the hate-filled reactions to Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.
And we are tired of it. Most voters would like to move on to something new. It's not clear whether we will.
Right now, the Democrats seem likelier than the Republicans to nominate the next president, and the candidate they seem likeliest to nominate is Hillary Clinton (born in 1948). She tends to polarize voters in much the same way her husband and his successor have.
Her favorable-unfavorable in poll after poll runs around 49% favorable and 47% unfavorable. That means: a) she can win and b) she can lose. Obviously, many Democratic primary voters are troubled by the existence of this second possibility in a time when other factors are so positive for their party.

It is of some small satisfaction to me that if I eat right, excersize and take care of myself, I may live just long enough to see the last Baby Boomer die.
It’s good to have goals.
I usually like Barone but this one just didn’t hang together for me. I’m not sure what point he’s trying to make. Are Boomers the only generation in history with disagreements? Certainly not. It’s just that Boomers are in charge now. In a few years the next generation will take over and they’ll have lots of rifts too. Some will be the same old rifts about the relationship between the individual and the State. Other rifts will be new and unique to the challenges faced by the next generation (like how the heck to pay Social Security for all those Boomers). Big deal, so what. Maybe Barone is just running out of things to write about.
Most Americans are 'Baby Boomers'.
How long have you desired to see most Americans die, Habib?
Habib isn't willing to wait to see them die of old age.
I agree. The title is absolutely unrelated to whatever he is trying to say.
How long have you desired to see most Americans die?
Oh, my. You are a stubborn one, aren't you?
If you did not mischaracterize my original quote by selectively editing it, you would have answered you own question.
Do you desire a long life? If you achieve that, you too will see most Americans living today die.
True. However; unlike you, I'm not already salivating about the "satisfaction" of their deaths.
Wait..wait..let me double-check. Yes; "satisfaction" is the word you used regarding the deaths of you compatriots.
Actually, I characterized the satisfaction as small, so "salivating" is not a term I would use.
You seem quite determined to take offense, so don't let me stop you.
Oh, forget about him. He’s just another grumpy, jealous Xer.
Poor, misunderstood man.
Damn it....I meant to order some fries while he was still talking to me.
The founder of this site, Jim Robinson, is a baby boomer and a veteran. Pity that you will get satisfaction at any level to see him die.
Tick tick tick, old man...
The names on THE BLACK WALL in Washington, DC are almost all baby boomers. I am not amused!!!!!!
