su·shi (sū'shē)- Cold cooked rice dressed with vinegar that is shaped into bite-sized pieces and topped with raw or cooked fish,(usually raw) or formed into a roll with fish, egg, or vegetables and wrapped in seaweed.

The original term Japanese: 寿司 sushi (-zushi in some compounds such as makizushi), written in kanji, means snack and refers to the rice, but not fish or other toppings.[1]
