Because everything I have seen makes it look like practicing sorcery and casting spells can be good and fun. Being a Jedi looks pretty cool, and Luke Skywalker is a heroic, happy-go-lucky kind of guy. Did you notice a lot of kids building lightsabers in the late '70s?

A group of elementary school friends and I tried to build the milennium falcon out of an old Igloo cooler and a big fan that my parents had. Considering that there was no air in space, it would have taken us forever to get to Alderaan.
