Exactly, for the same reason Abraham Lincoln went to war: to keep southern tariff collections intact!That statement just went over the head of every public school educated adult who hasn't taken advanced U.S. History courses in college. The dumbed down version is that the Civil War was fought because of slavery.

in rebellion against the legally constituted government, with South Carolina leaving before Lincoln was even inaugurated.
