Where are you getting that the girls made the complaint in the first place? The article on the other thread says an aide saw the behavior and sent the boys to the office:

First, I did not know there was an article on the other thread and no link has been provided on this post. But understand that the knowledge that I have is based on the verbiage quoted at the beginning of this thread. And that information is minimal.

The two boys tore down the hall of Patton Middle School after lunch, swatting the bottoms of girls as they ran -- what some kids later said was a common form of greeting. But bottom-slapping is against policy in McMinnville Public Schools.

I assume the above is a direct quote from that "other" article. So okay, bottom-slapping is against the policy of this school. Which begs the question: is bottom-slapping okay in other schools? Because, silly me, I do not believe that bottom-slapping should be okay in any school. Now I know that guys do this sort of thing to each other as I do watch a football game now and again. But to willy-nilly allow males to bottom-swat females as they walk down the hall to class, hey I don't think there's one thing right about this. Further, to those of us with daughters, suppose your daughter came home and complained about constantly having her butt swatted as she walked the halls of her school? You think this would be okay?

So a teacher's aide sent the gawky seventh-graders to the office, where the vice principal and a police officer stationed at the school soon interrogated them.

To those amongst us who complain about the lamestream media tending to "slant" things.....come on...what alleged "gawky" boys run down the halls of their school swatting the girls' bottoms? Gawky to me indicates a sort of buck-toothed, all-elbows sort of fellow. What right does the writer of this bit have to call those kids "gawky"? I wonder if the reporter has even seen these kids. Frankly I think two hellion boys running down the halls swatting girls bottoms to be just plain bad and rude. Gawky is the last word that would describe them. And if I were those boys' parents I'd be super embarrassed about that kind of behavior.

The girls are apparently saying they felt pressured to say things they didn't want to say. Also, I don't think the police officer had obtained parental permission to question the kids in a criminal investigation.

Why do you deduce that the girls are apparently saying things they felt pressured to say? On what are you basing this assumption? According to your quote, it wasn't the GIRLS who reported these fine fellows. It was a teacher's aide. Either the teacher's aide saw what she saw or she/he didn't. Where does this bring the notion that the girls somehow are embellishing their stories?

Hey, conservatives, as a rule, tend to believe that we should be able to walk about in pursuit of our happiness without having our bodies molested in an unwanted manner by anyone, male or female. Except, I must deduce by some of the arguments on this thread, for females, who should be most gracious about fond male taps on their behind?

There seems to be some argument also that a swat on the butt is not a SEXUAL assault. Well I'll sit with you and argue as to the type of assault all day and night but go with me, swatting me anywhere on my person uninvited is an ASSAULT. Now as to how I, or in this case the school, handles it is open to debate. If those boys had reached out and grabbed those girls' breasts would that be "sexual" assualt? Where does the word "sexual" end and just an ordinary, regular assault begin? Does it much matter?

Because for now and from what I know so far, those boys are guilty of assault of some sort, supposing they had slapped all the girls in the face?

I should think those authorities could handle this firmly and without putting those boys in jail or have their futures sullied for what, for now I believe, is thoughtless somewhat rude behavior.

For sure and until the day I die will I ever accept that the solution is for the females to accept a swat in the ass as a male's god-given right and she should not complain lest the offending male be punished somehow for his offensive behavior, sexual or otherwise.

No....in Durham the prosecutor LIED about what those boys did. In this case, those boys did what they did and there were plenty of witnesses. I suspect that the authorities are just trying to scare the hell out of those boys.

And it sure sounds to me like they need it.

From the Oregonian:

"But confidential police reports and juvenile court records shed new light on the context of the boys' actions. The records show that other students, boys and girls, were slapping one another's bottoms. Two of the girls identified as victims have recanted, saying they felt pressured and gave false statements to interrogators."

Do you think the girls are guilty of some sort of assault, too?
