Teens facing sex charges for butt slaps

MCMINNVILLE, Ore., July 22 (UPI) -- Two 13-year-old Oregon boys are facing serious sex charges for allegedly slapping female classmates' bottoms as a form of horseplay.

Police arrested Cory Mashburn and Ryan Cornelison of McMinnville and if convicted could be permanently marked as sex offenders, The Portland Oregonian said Sunday. The teens also could spend as long as 10 years in juvenile detention if found guilty.

While the boys' parents have opposed such a harsh penalty, McMinnville District Aattorney Bradley Berry said such youthful acts could have longstanding consequences for the alleged victims.

"These cases are devastating to children," he said. "They are life-altering cases."

Interviews with the boys' fellow students found other teens were engaging in similar behavior at the time and two of the female victims have since recanted their statements.

The Oregonian said the boys are due in court on Aug. 20 to answer to all charges stemming from the February event.

Those girls are pushing 40 now and I doubt they even remember it. I doubt their lives have been ruined. I doubt they are still in therapy because of it.

Shoot - I bet the girls that didn't get their butts slapped were probably thinking "How come nobody wants to slap my butt?"

I can only think of the following that were minor offenses back in the day but would major issues today: streaking, mooning, public urination. Any others?

Firing them isn’t enough. I want them arrested for child abuse, false imprisonment, and misappropriation of public funds. And hopefully these kids will sue them all into bankruptcy. I have some serious questions about sexual abuse that I need some help with. My sister just told me that an old friend of ours is having trouble with her fourteen year old daughter and her husband. Our friend left her husband because he molested two other young family members. No charges were ever brought because the molestation didn’t go far enough to be definitive and there was a family history of molestation in the women’s family (so there testimony could be construed as hysterical).

Now the husband’s sister called our friend and told her that her family observed the husband touching the daughter inappropriately. The youth group leader reported to our friend that the daughter’s My Space Page contained the invitation, for a good f-—, call -——. The mother also found inappropriate text messages from boys in the middle of the night, on the girls cell phone. And the psychiatrist is still telling the mother not to confront the situation.

So, I decide to google the young girl’s name, and what came up is some young incest web site with both her first name and her father’s last name mentioned. I am afraid to click on it because I’m sure is porno. I can I get in trouble for just clicking on the web site?

This is just the substitution for the day care abuse scandles of the 1980s and 1990s. Prosecutors have to be abusing their power somewhere, it is human nature.

Under Oregon law, you cannot charge a 13 year old minor with a sex crime as the law does not yet consider a 13 year old mature enough to understand such a crime:

"Sexual assault" of adolescents is any act of forced or coerced sexual conduct by perpetrators over 14 years of age against victims over 14 years of age.

I fully agree that such "acts could have longstanding consequences for the alleged victims". The Nifongesque (I hereby apply for a trademark on the new word) conduct of District Attorney Bradley Berry will have a devastating impact on the lives of those 13 year old boys.

I would advise the boy's parents to file charges of prosecutorial misconduct against District Attorney Bradley Berry.

If they are sex offenders, they can’t be teachers or preachers. In some states, they would have to live 1000 feet from any school, school bus stop or area where kids congregate.
