Actually I heard from a military friend that we had to turn back Israeli fighters with nukes during GW1. I believe they have the stones and common sense to defend themselves if we aren’t there to take up the slack.

agreed, but I think the only way Israel would strike directly at the citizens of Syria and/or Damascus is if there are WMD unleashed by Syria into Israel.

For example, If Syrian launches some conventional SCUDs into TelAviv that hits a housing complex killing 30 civilians, I think Israel would respond by razing every single seat of Syrian govt. I don’t think blocks of Damascus houses are going to be hit by the IDF unless Syria goes chem, bio or nuclear

My Dad's favorite saying...he was a Baptist minister early in life,...later an Educator,,,,

In today's real world, I'm guided by the statement, God helps those who help themselves.

Except that 'statement' is NOT found IN the Bible!

Syrian Official: War with Israel will be Ballistic...

Me thinks Israeli Official will reply: They go ballistic, we go atomic...

And me also thinks Damascus will suffer far worse damage...

If this is really their plan, then it is easy to see why they and the other Arabs haven’t been able to fight their collective way out of a wet paper bag. Let’s see:

1) They assume that Israel has learned nothing from last summer.

2) They assume that even if Israel didn’t learn anything, that it would decide to fight a nation-state with high-value military, industrial and commercial targets the same way as a bunch of terrorists disbursed throughout the civilian population.

3) They’ve forgotten what Israel did to them in 1973 - once Israel didn’t need the IAF for ground support or air superiority missions (the Syrian AF having been wiped out), Israel proceeds to bomb civilian infrastructure like electrical plants, dams, bridges, etc. ALL OVER SYRIA. I guess the new generation needs a new education.

4) They must think that Israel won’t fight for its survival against Syria and Iran in a, uhhhh, somewhat less restrained way than they have fought a bunch of terrorists over the years.

5) They have definitely forgotten that Israel has the ultimate weapon, the L-rd of Hosts. When the weapon is activated, it doesn’t miss ANY targets, and utterly destroys all that it hits.

Go ahead, Syrian morons, start a war with Israel. I suspect that the headlines from around the world will be something like Isaiah 17:1:

“The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it IS a ruinous heap.”

That would be an accurate read of Jewish theology. The sea didn't split like in the Charleton Heston movie - the Jews had to first do everything they could humanly do to escape Pharaoh's forces, which involves many jumping in and starting to swim. G-d doesn't give miracles to those who do the couch potato act and whip off a few prayers here and there. The Big Guy ain't fooled so easily. Why else would He have given us a brain, hands, etc.? - to USE them.

Syria prefers to avoid a direct, "classic" confrontation with Israel, he said. Instead, the next war will involve Katyusha rocket and ballistic missiles that will target strategic points in Israel, especially civilian infrastructure. The official said that the war will not be limited to a single strike, but will be protracted in nature. "This will be a war of attrition, which the Israelis are not good at," he explained. The conflict, he said, "will be more like a war between cities than a war on the battlefield."

This "anonymous senior official in the Syrian Ministry of Defense" must have some sort of death wish for Syria. Threats like this can make your body temperature rise thousands of degrees in seconds.

These barbarians are still living back in the time of the early Jihads and Crusades. Hey moron, war between City States became obsolete with the invention of gunpowder and the cannon. No City State walls could stand up to repeated cannon fire. Thus, being behind the walls of a City State offered no security. In World War II, mobility became king. As Patton called fortified structures monuments to the stupidity of man. That theory was put into practice and demonstrated to you Barbarians recently when Baghdad fell in a few days. In modern times we also have the A-Bomb. An entire City State can be vanquished in a few minutes by a missile fired thousands of miles away. Anyone who advocates City State Warfare now, is an idiot. Unless of course your long term goal is to kill civilian population. That of course is why the modern world refers to you as a Barbarian.

That doesn't pass the 'smell test'. Why would Israel load-up a nuclear strike when US ground forces were in close proximity? Even if the troops hadn't crossed into Iraq yet, they were still downwind of any IAF nuke strike. Not good to irradiate your patron's troops.

Also, I wonder just how a US photo interpreter would judge what a bomb casing contains? Is there anyway to know for sure?

Third, why not use a Jericho missile? Not much chance of a Patriot Battery knocking one down since the threat axis is all wrong.

Lastly, what Iraqi target (at that point of the air war) was 'worth' a nuke? Your certainly not gonna waste one on a few Scuds sitting on their TELs in the western Iraqi desert when a good cluster bomb would do nicely.

What that official forgot to mention (or realize) is that Syria will be at the terminus of the “ballistic” trajectory.

Arabs are not good Chess players.

Syria challenging Isreal to a ballistic missile duel is like a local checkers champ challenging Kasperov to a game of chess using the 60 second timer.

Sundown begins Tish’a B’Av (the ninth of the month of Av 5767). It has already began in Yahrushalayim, hours ago. For a good article on Islime, go to:
yourarmstoisrael.org
select: “a must read”
pull up: “Article 29/The Final End Time beast”.
print and save for future reference.
Pray for the peace of Yahrushalayim.

And of course, Israel will step right up and let their opponent dictate the terms of the battlefield.

Any armed force that does that has already lost the battle.
Therefore, Israel will not.

Israels problem isn’t Syria shooting missiles. It is the Hezballah and whoever is running Gaza, shooting accurate short range missiles at a rate of one or two every day for a year.

As soon as the terrorists can get their hands on small, portable, accurate missiles that have adequate range, Israel’s days will be numbered. Those missiles exist now.

Sure Israel will respond, but the terrorists will be gone and the Lebanese family who wasn’t all that sympathetic to the terrorists, will be dead or at least without a house.

Israel lost the latest war in Lebanon. They will lose the next war too, unless they are willing to commit genocide and I don’t think that they are willing to do that. They have lost the will to kill without mercy.

President Bush should warn Syria that an attack on Israel would lead to the destruction of the Assad dictatorship. This would likely do two things. One, it would leave no doubt that Syria had better not risk the costs of attacking Israel. Two, it would force the Democrats to realize that their homage to the art of diplomacy isn’t enough. Pelosi, Hillary, and the pajama man Reid would have to back Bush and Israel or show their true colors.

What Syria (and the rest of the Muslim world, for that matter) is saying is that the West does not have the stomach to fight a war where our adversaries hide amidst a “civilian” population; in order to take out the enemy, we’d have to kill a lot of human shields. They may be right, and if they are, they have our Achilles heel.

Actually trying to think of the prophetic passage, I believe it was Isaiah that prophecied Damascus would be left a smoking pile of rubble. Such attacks, say a couple missles a day would be shot down. If Syria increases the attack and a couple get through, I would not be surprised to see Tel Aviv complete the ‘war of the cities’ and vaporize Damascus.

Yeah those US carriers sitting of the coast of Iran might mean something to them and their partners the Syrians. Methinks they will wait until Bush is gone and (gulp) Hillary is in. Whether she is in or not, that transistion period of the new POTUS is a window of attack on Israel in my opinion.

They try it now, they know Bush gets to cream the crap out of them and our treasonous congress would have to oblige.

Fact is, Israel will be alone in this coming fight and she will do just fine with our equipment, including the 5,000 smart bombs Israel was the recent benefactor of. The dems won’t help and we may be facing more of our own problems that distract us such as WMD attack on one of our cities. I also think this would happen on a dem POTUS watch as the chances of overwhelming retaliation are slim.
