That's the root of it. Mainstreaming mental illness and turning normal aversion to some aspects of mental illness into a disease. If a person is homosexual they are now normal as opposed to most of recorded history. If you believe that homosexuality is an aberration in need of treatment then you are now the one with an illness.

That is rarely mentioned, but the most logical response I think. The literature on post-operative trans-sexuals admits (though sato voce) that many signs of mental illness, including psychosis, remain long after the "re-adjustment." So if the surgery/mutilation was to help the patient become themselves (and achieve mental peace/integration) then why hasn't it worked? With the debate about homosexual reparative therapy ongoing in the American Psychological Association you would think, based on the evidence, that there would be a similar debate going on in surgical circles about "gender re-assignment." Guess not. Heck, what do I know?
