Clinton, Obama Address La Raza Conference

(CBS4) MIAMI BEACH -- Two top Democratic contenders in the presidential race are in South Florida to address the National Council of La Raza, the nation's largest Hispanic civil rights group.

Sunday morning, New York Senator Hillary Clinton told the gathering at the Miami Beach Convention Center, she would prefer to pass a comprehensive immigration bill that would provide a path to legalization for immigrants in the United States.

But, she was quick to add, there were some aspects of the current immigration reform proposal that she believes have a chance of passing on their own. For example, she pointed to the so called "Deam Act" that would help students who are brought to the U.S. as young children go to college and eventually become citizens.

Illinois Senator Barack Obama was scheduled to address the conference Sunday afternoon.

The organization had invited the top three Republican candidates; Mitt Romney, John McCain and Rudy Giuliani to speak as well, but all three said they would not be able to attend according to La Raza officials.

Other conference speakers include Gov. Charlie Crist, Wal-Mart President Lee Scott and the Rev. Al Sharpton.

Also during the conference, La Raza will launch a new campaign to register and mobilize millions of immigrant voters, who are mostly Hispanic, to take part in next year's presidential elections.

La Raza's 2007 Annual Conference and Latino Expo will run through Tuesday.

I noticed a van here in Atlanta this week that said “La Raza Radio” - it made wonder if this term is becoming synonymous with some kind of music or programming - that could make this fight harder. Still worth winning, of course, but harder.

Why, oh why do Pubbies run from forums such as the NAACP and La Raza? What are they afraid of? Stand up like men, speak the truth and let the chips fall where they may.

If Hillary can be a man, why can't they? I would have thought that the rough, tough Rudy Julie Annie would at least be as much of a man as Hillary. But, he does like to wear dresses and she's a pant suit guy.

“Why would they suck up to a racist organization?”

I hate to say this, but it’s because the democratic party and a large percentage of their constituency do not like white males, except self-hating white males who are part of their movement. The term ‘people of color’ is an incredibly racist term that in my view is as offensive as the n word. That anyone running for the Presidency of the US would address La Raza, an organization that advocates for non-citizens to take over parts of our country, is egregious. We need to be the ‘melting pot’ we have traditionally been, where people give up some, and keep some of their heritage to meld together into unique Americans. We should not be pushing citizenship for people who don’t value America. I think Hillary should be the president of Mexico, or of France, or of any other country except this one. They seem to like her. Let them have her.

"The organization had invited the top three Republican candidates; Mitt Romney, John McCain and Rudy Giuliani to speak as well, but all three said they would not be able to attend according to La Raza officials....lest they be run out of town by the genuine anti-Amnesty crowd, they are attempting to court for the top spot on the ticket.

They're finally listening, now let's get the deal done for real...shut the borders once and for all, shut down any and all immigration, unless and until it happens and workplace enforcement actually begins to punish violators, cut off all government funds to "sanctuary cities/states", and shut down government agencies caught giving taxpayer dollars to illegals or immigrants in general. They are supposed to have sponsors who will pony up the money they need to survive if they can't on their own never rely on any welfare.

La Raza is a racist, anti-USA organization. Politicians that genuflect before it tell us a great deal about their character, especially about their unfitness for public office.
