With Mother's Day approaching, Shaun Kranish needed a gift, so he strapped on his unloaded semiautomatic 9 mm pistol and left his Rockford home to do some shopping.

During his May 2006 trip to CherryVale Mall in Cherry Valley, Kranish put the 15-round magazine into a separate pouch on the holster, where he could easily reach it if necessary.

Kranish, 21, picked up some tea for his mother, ate pizza at the food court, then noticed two security guards warily following him. Taken into custody, he was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, a felony.

No CCW in Illinois. A gun isn’t allowed in a car unless it is proveable your going to or from a shooting range. One of the last of two states to remain in the dark ages along with Wisconsin. Wisconsin will turn CCW long before the hellhole of Illinois. The demon666rat party owns the state of IL.

Winnebago County State’s Attorney Paul Logli: “We believe we have sufficient grounds for appeal,” he said. “Hopefully the appellate court can make some law on this.”

And this is why we're where we are today.
This dumba** made it through law school, passed the bar, advanced through the system to achieve the position he currently holds, and through it all never learned how laws are made. Wonderful liberal education.

On a brighter note, at least 'our side' is learning how to fight back using their own methods against them:

“Shaun made huge progress with this case,” said John Birch, the nearly 10-year president of Concealed Carry Inc. “Sometimes we can’t make progress legislatively, but we can in the judicial system.” ;-)

He had a very good reason to carry, this is the same mall that was targeted this last year in an Islamic terror plot to use hand grenades on Christmas shoppers:

When they start taking their weapons out of their home and walking around with them strapped to their hip, bad things can happen.

Only to a bad person......which is the point.

Persons packing hip protection can go a long way toward forcing a criminal(s) or jihadist(s) to strike elsewhere where protection is not displayed.

This guy sounds more like a warden than a public servant. How fitting.

Winnebago County State’s Attorney Paul Logli

Logli should be institutionalized; he obviously has no higher brain function.

I agree.....but the limp-wristed left want to believe it provokes an escalation instead of detering one. Wrong-o! What 'tards.

I absolutely positively concur. The left and their minions want no protection displayed to deter the criminal or jihadist elements. But one can take solace in that view gives all Americans an insight as to whose side the left and their minions desire to protect (criminals and the jihadists elements).

I thank God the politicians cannot sway those who see the truth. May our citizens continue to fight the good fight against those who wish to surrender or betray US.

The guards should be happy he didn't try to drive through the mall.

“But I’m not aware of any police officer who would advocate more handguns on the street.”
Is that only because you don’t dare ask a wide range of police officers or is it that you might possibly be saying something that isn’t true? IMHO

here's a stupid question: if his gun was as "concealed" as this young man stated, HOW DID MALL SECURITY SEE THE GUN ON HIM?

seems to me like this young computer programmer who lives in his parents basement likes to wear shirts that inch up ever so slightly so people can see his "piece". please correct me if i am wrong.

Ummmm....

"Strapped on their hip." a) The gun is not "on the street." Someone is legally carrying it.

b) Just because a weapon is not concealed does not mean it is any less "dangerous."

c) The cop seems to have an issue with the "old west."

d) How many muggings, rapes, assaults, etc. were there in the "old west" vs. today?

well, i’m a cop and i would like to see law-abiding citizens carrying guns for personal protection. however, i fear that too many people, in a city the size of new york, would succumb to road rage and squeeze off a couple.

Cherry Valley disagrees with the judge’s ruling. “This is not the Old West,” he [Police Chief Gary Maitland] said. “I’m not advocating banning handguns. But I’m not aware of any police officer who would advocate more handguns on the street. When they start taking their weapons out of their home and walking around with them strapped to their hip, bad things can happen.

Yeah, like honest citizens being arrested by his goons for exercising their Second Amendment rights.!

Most Americans would rather lay down their rights to the PC crowd in order to "get along" and not appear too aggressive. That's how we got in this mess.

Those willing to risk fines, imprisonment and being shunned to protect those rights are considered/labelled "vigilantes" or "rednecks". Sad.

That's right. I mean LEO's might start being polite to the citizens that they claim to be the servants of. Hunh ........ public servants acting like servants instead plantation masters, nyaaaah ..... not in America.

This chief is too dense to realize the type of people he needs to worry about ALREADY carry guns.

Just harassing the little people. Its easier than going after criminals. They have “rights”

mho here and I prefer Conceal Carry, but what is bothering me is if more law abiding citizens carry exposed, the criminal and jihadist elements are going to understand the message sent. The message is....If (the criminal or jihadist) begins a crime with weapons, response could possibly be quicker than that criminal or jihadist wildest dreams. Law abiding citizens carrying protection exposed or concealed bothers me not, but I have no doubt a criminal or jihadist would think twice, and causing someone to think twice sometimes is what is necessary to prevent a crime or worse. Now the liberals and their minions will cry "Foul", but self-protection is a God given right granted to a law abiding citizenry, in spite of what the politicians and some on the bench would have one believe. When the 2nd is overturn, I will be a criminal, as will anyone who holds that right of self-protection dear to their heart, and I will be forced to realize America's unarm population is venerable, as removing the right to keep and bear arms has now been abolished and should the 2nd Amendment be overturned. Now as I said, I prefer Conceal Carry and I prefer Conceal Carry over exposed but that is simply me, yet I will not and cannot tell a law abiding citizen to give up the right of self-protection (btw I am not a law enforcement officer, I am only a citizen) and I cannot support law enforcement saying, "I see you have a weapon, you are under arrest." Hopefully (if this were to occur) there would be another armed and prepared citizen in the area, showing a firearm, obeying the law, protecting themselves or fellow citizens if the need should arise, for the police officer, or the courts would have removed a potential line of defense for America and America's citizens, by the action of an arrest....mho
