After the Los Angles Times came under fire for a possibly bogus story on former Sen. Fred Thompson lobbying for a pro-abortion group, a New York Times article on Thursday claims billing records prove it to be true.
The Times reported that Thompson spent nearly 20 hours in 1991 and 1992 lobbying for the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association to get the Bush administration to drop its policy preventing taxpayer funding of groups that promote or perform abortions in other nations. He spent 20 hours working for the group as an attorney at the Arent Fox law firm and most of the time was spent on the phone with the organization's director.
Thompsons spokesman, Mark Corallo, told the Times that Thompson simply worked for clients of the law firm as a practicing attorney there and that the work was the kind Thompson would have undertaken for any client as a good attorney. The firm consulted with Fred Thompson, he said. It is not unusual for a lawyer to give counsel at the request of colleagues, even when they personally disagree with the issue.
Despite his lobbying or legal work for the pro-abortion group, Thompson voted consistently in the Senate during his tenure for pro-life bills and left with a 100% pro-life voting record on abortion-related issues.
In recent months leading up to a potential candidacy for the GOP nomination for president, Thompson has repeatedly said he is pro-life and supports the reversal of Roe v. Wade so states can once again prohibit abortions. The firm's current chairman, Marc Fleischaker, told the Times that Fred was being a good colleague by helping out one of the firm's partner.
Thompson himself has responded to the controversy saying an attorneys work must not be misinterpreted for his personal views and beliefs.
New York Slimes is a lot to do about nothing.
... have Thompson ask the "National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association" if they will be endorsing him for President.
After all... they say he used to work for them. Do they think he's pro-choice?
When they say "heck no we won't endorse him!", you know the issue is dead.
I think we learned from Dan Rather & CBS to take anything from the MSM with a barrel (not a grain) of salt! The people that made these claims are affiliated with Hillary Clinton; who has good reason to want Fred knocked out, so she can run against Rudy McRomney.

According to the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Associations own website they did not support him at all during his 8 years in the Senate, so why would they support him now?
Maybe Fred’s holding off on announcing until this nonstory is fully yesterday’s news.

Good morning!
I think you have a point, there. I know that he has “obligations” that he spoken of that have to be met before he can declare. At the same time, a lot of things that might be used as ammunition against him get aired and become old news, basically, before he announces. I think waiting until September [previously the usual month to declare candidacy, right?] is going to have many benefits. Of course, I’m no political strategerist....
20 hours over TWO years?!?!
For Pete’s sake ... and we don’t know the details of it do we?
I agree about the Times.. ;)
If Fred doesn’t get his act together and quit tapdancing, he’s not gonna be anyone’s number 1 for long, much less my 2nd choice.
20 Billable Attorney hours?
That translates into about 69 minutes of REAL WORK, doesn’t it?
One man’s opinion. So what? A big fat “So what”?
Keep waling away.
You pinged me to this Fred shill piece, so I provided yet another antidote.
It's summer, everybody is focused on high heat, vacations, and just forgetting about anything political. There's plenty of time to go formal with a declaration.
Oh, I knew you would post a link. BTW, I note the way you (typically) use pejorative language with that word “antidote.” That’s what makes you so dishonest—you ALWAYS insinuate dirt about Thompson. It all come back on you, because more and more, people are picking up the same thing about your tactics that I did. Unfortunately, when it comes back on you as the lead Duncanista, it will also splatter Mr. Hunter.
I love that argument. Worship Fred the tapdancer, or it will reflect poorly on your candidate.
