You must be a Muslim (??). I can very easily overlook the “cult” remark as the answer overall was a dead-on-target bell ringer!
Unless you’re either a Muslim or a first-year theology student trying to impress your teachers that you would know the correct usage of the word “cult,” I can’t understand why you object.
I am a Bible school/seminary graduate; have taken the several courses on cults and done the papers for my post-grad work that required mention of “cults.” Actually we learned a standard description of cults, mostly describing pseudo-Christian cults. But looking over the criteria, I could certainly see the word “cult” as befitting Islam - - - certainly not as inappropriate as your objection suggests.
I don’t think Boortz professes to be Christian believer; quite to the contrary, right? Let him use the word “cult” for what is obviously our enemy. (Hitler had a cult following, Stalin had a cult following, the Clintons have cult following, the Muslim hierarchy in Riyadh has a cult following.)
Oh, I almost forgot - - you might be a Muslim.
I do not object to the term “cult” as applied to the Islamists. It is entirely appropriate.
I object to applying it to the entire religion of Islam for two reasons:
I personally know Muslims who do not AT ALL fit this stereotype. (However, I am not a Muslim myself.)
It is bad tactics to take actions that will increase your number of enemies. Calling all Muslims terrorists and cultists will tend to cause even moderate Muslims to feel a common cause with the extremists. It’s a bad idea to help your enemy recruit.
BTW, I have no problem with “eradicating” Islamists. Go for it! I have a problem with the idea of “eradicating” all 1B+ Muslims. That would put us better than 80 times ahead of the Nazis.
