If we can eak out the defense budget, then they can all go on a year long vacation as far as I’m concerned.

One of the reasons for a reduced budget deficit is the fact that most of the government has been under a continuing resolution for FY 2007. Under Reid and Pelosi’s leadership this Congress had failed to complete it’s main function as a legislative body. Passing a stinking budget.

“”If we can eak out the defense budget, then they can all go on a year long vacation as far as I’m concerned.””

I understand that the Defense Approprations Bill will be voted on tomorrow. If it passes, and if Presiden Bush signs it, then the Defense Department will receive $648 billion for FY 2008. They can start spending that money on October 1st.

The bill that Reid is holding up is the Defense Authorization Bill. That bill contains Congress’s directions for how the money approved in the appropriations bill is spent. If the appropriation bill is approved and the authorization bill is never approved then the Defense Department can spend the money any way it wants. that actually might be a good thing.

I also understand that the Defense Appropriations Bill is the only spending bill that the President intends to sign. He intends to veto all other spending bills (saying that they spend too much). It looks like he intends to have a confrontation with Congress over the budget. If that does, indeed, happen it could change the current momentum that is working against the GOP.

With all due respect, it's spelled, "eke".

Rock on.
