Every time I fill out an online job application, and come across that EEOC thing that asks my gender and race, I ask myself the same question.
I wonder what would happen if I said female and hispanic? Who's going to tell me that I'm not Latino enough? I'm adopted, I just might have Spanish ancestors in the mix, and besides, it's who I feel I am right now...
I’m 1/16th Native American. Nobody I’ve ever worked for has known that. Not because I’m not proud of it, but because I never wanted special treatment. I’ve also never applied for gov’t benefits that I’m eligible for. Using ancestry or race as a crutch to support your status as a “victim” is beyond pathetic.
