Please name, by make and model, ANY american built station wagons still in production, that does not closely resemble an SUV. The Big Three stopped building sedan based station wagons 30 years ago. All that’s left are hatchback suicide boxes and “SUVs” of various sizes. In other words, you may just be talking out of ignorance...
I posted a picture of the Dodge Magnum upthread. I don’t know, however, if it’s technically “American-built.”
“..stopped building sedan based station wagons 30 years ago”
Not quite. The ‘80s was the last gasp. To wit, the Caprice, and the Crown Vic/Grand Marquis. Actually, the Caprice may have been into the ‘90s.
But basically, yes, station wagons were “outlawed”. Unless you count the Jap econobox versions. I don’t. Tiny is not practical.
chrysler magnum. It is a station waggon with a macho PR campaign.
Well, there’s mini vans and full size vans (bigger inside than SUVs).
Ford Taurus station wagon was made deep into the 90’s.
It was a good seller - but took away from SUV and mini-van sales. Then it was good bye for it.
