So Braun is a Democrat? Context please?
I’m completely confused by this story.
This was a run off for Charlie Norwood's old seat in Congress. The top two candidates Broun and Whitehead are both Republicans.
Special primary runoff, I do believe. They’re both Republicans.
The election is to fill Charlie Norwood’s seat.
I think both GOP-ers.
However, this was more about RedState picking the wrong guy than about the guy who won (Check the lede).
More journalistic masterbation
broun is a republican. this was the run off. the 2 top vote getters in the original vote were republicans, but neither had 50% so the run off happened.
No, Broun and Whitehead both ran as Republicans in a special election that pitted all R, D and L candidates against each other ... they were the two top vote getters and went into the runoff with two Rs against each other.
To put it in context, Whitehead was the candidate of the Country Club Rebublicans. Broun was the candidate of the Social Conservatives. The democrats had already been eliminated.
No, it seem Broun is a “Republican’s Republican” from the Republican wing-of the Republican Party, AKA a true RR Smaller-Government Conservative Conservative, in other words: this is good news (I believe..).
Folks need to understand that this is probably the most conservative congressional district in the whole country. There are districts that are more “Republican” but that doesn’t necessarily reflect the true nature of things. When the people in this district send someone to Washington, you can rest assured that they picked the most conservative candidate available in the end.
