Oh man I love it! The Excalibur, which is I believe the GPS-guided arty shell, for starters (a double-shot even),then the entree served by an Apache, followed by dessert from an F-16! I hope they’re all enjoying meeting allah!

A coworker’s husband worked on that project. Man are they ever proud of that one.

Remember back in the late 80's when the USN was testing a rocket boosted shell ti be fired from the 16" guns of the New Jersey, before she was mothballed. I read at the time that the maximum range was 75-100 miles, and it put about 65% of the earth's population within range. Can you imagine if they had a GPS guided version of that...??

What to Tomahawks cost?..$1 mill+ each.. you could get 1,000 of these rocket shells for a BB...and the cost differential would pay the bill to refit the ship..

The Excalibur, which is I believe the GPS-guided arty shell, for starters

Definitely not our grandfathers' artillery. From globalsecurity.org:

Excalibur is a family of precision-guided, extended-range modular projectiles incorporating three unique payload capabilities divided into Block configurations. Block I consists of high-explosive, fragmenting, or penetrating unitary munitions to enhance traditional fire support operations with increased range, improved accuracy, and reduced collateral damage against personnel, light materiel, and structure targets. Block II consists of smart munitions to search, detect, acquire, and engage fleeting and short-dwell targets common to open-terrain battlefields. Block III consists of discriminating munitions to selectively identify and engage individual vehicular targets in urban environments by distinguishing specific target characteristics. Excalibur's precision capabilities are intended to be used by Future Combat System (FCS) Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) Cannon units to provide close support to maneuver units in urban or complex terrain. Digitized lightweight 155mm howitzer systems will be used to develop and test Excalibur's capabilities before FCS NLOS Cannon is fielded.

The Excalibur development team combines U.S. guidance expertise with Swedish airframe experience. The projectile will employ Global Positioning System (GPS)-aided inertial guidance and navigation, free spinning base fins, four-axis canard airframe control, base bleed technology, and a trajectory glide to achieve increased accuracy and extended ranges beyond 30 km. The FCS NLOS Cannon will incorporate an inductive fuze setter to transfer target and fuze data to the integral fuze.

Awesome coordinated effort between Air Force and Army. However, ask yourself how much it cost us to kill a few terrorists who can easily be replaced, and will be replaced.

Then think how little it costs for the enemy to build a roadside bomb that kills American heroes and their expensive equipment. Economically speaking, we pay the higher price and the terrorists know it.

Yeah I saw a show on that. An original German design rolled into the field in almost no time. Incredible GPS guided artillery. Was thinking that the bad guys lost one of their only few advantages of urban environment to hide in. Good riddance scumbags. No virgins for you, only 20 foot tall demons with pig heads to play with and them demons are bored.
