RAMADI, Iraq: Sunni merchants watched warily from behind neat stacks of fruit and vegetables as Lieutenant General Raymond Odierno walked with a platoon of bodyguards through the Qatana bazaar here one recent afternoon. At last, one leathery-faced trader glanced furtively up and down the narrow, refuse-strewn street to check who might be listening, then broke the silence.
"America good! Al Qaeda bad!" he said in halting English, flashing a thumb's-up in the direction of the second-ranking U.S. commander in Iraq.

Despite being a NY Times reporter, John Burns is an honest man who knows what will happen in Iraq if our troops leave. And twenty years from now he doesn’t want to have to live with the guilt that Sidney Schanberg has been living with since Cambodia fell.
Looks like some are thowing in with the strong horse.
If we leave Iraq, at least two million Iraqis will end up leaving the country or getting killed.
Not only that but also the consequences on the United States and the World will be worse than any nightmare we can imagine. We cannot leave Iraq before we crush the terrorists there.
Good point. So you think Al-Qaeda will conquer the Sunni triangle, the Iranians take over Basra an Baghdad while the Turks invade Kurdistan?
“two million Iraqis will end up leaving the country or getting killed.”
How about one Dem for each Iraqi killed after the surrender?
The terrorists whether they are Al Qaeda or the Iranian and Syrian terrorist regimes or a combination of all of them will not only control Iraq but the whole Middle East and with it come consequences to the US and the West that is worse the most horrible nightmares we can imagine. The islamic terrorists will be emboldened beyond imagination and they will have millions of recruits and volunteers ready to fight and destroy the world to establish their seventh century islamic society and Caliphate. The islamic terrorists will use the hundreds of billions of dollars from oil revenues to conduct terrorists attacks that are hundreds of folds more horrible, more deadly, and more destructive than the 9/11 terrorists attacks, including the use of nuclear weapons. They will also use the oil weapon to blackmail the Western and the world economy for many years to come.
If some terrorists dwelling in camps in Afghanistan with a limited budget and few volunteers were able to do 9/11 terrorist attacks, killed 3000 people and caused one trillion dollars in economic losses, imagine the incredible horrors that the terrorists can inflict on us if they control the whole Middle East and it vast revenues.
We are not fighting in Iraq for the Iraqis, we are fighting for our freedom and our way of life and those of our children, grandchildren, and for many generations to come.
