"Our Two Lives Include a Third?" (NY Times Journalist's Accidental Pregnancy)
New York Times ^ | July 15, 2007 | RONDA KAYSEN

Posted on 07/15/2007 6:26:07 AM PDT by Mrs. Don-o

TWO weeks after my husband and I quit our jobs, gave up our Brooklyn apartment and moved to Mexico to travel and work as freelance reporters, I discovered I was pregnant. Among the subjects I hoped to write about in Mexico was its restrictive abortion laws. Now I was contemplating an abortion myself. Even though my period was 10 days late, it hadn’t occurred to me that I could be pregnant....

Thank God she chose not to abort this baby.

As I type this, my b and s-i-law are in their car, driving home from the hospital with their two day old, adopted baby boy.

God bless the birth mother; God bless the adoptive mom and dad and baby. God can and DOES bless a thousand generations because of adoption. Think of Moses.

Having not yet read the article, I’d like to say the guy is more than likely the personification of a true liberal.

Plenty of ranting and raving in your reaction

Ranting and raving, huh? Got your number "prof." When it comes to missing points, both you and Amy get Perfect 10's.

I enjoyed your comments too. At least one child was saved and maybe as a result of the story other women may have second thoughts.

The piece is published in the “Fashion and Style” section, under “modern love.”

It's sad, but that's where to find minds that might be changed these days. Preaching to the choir doesn't accomplish much. This story might soften a few hearts that had previously been hardened by feminist dogma. Once unleashed the "motherhood" instinct is tremendously powerful, as the Reuters guy found out.

I noticed that the author slid from calling the unborn child “it” to calling it “baby” without alterting the reader as to why the change of heart.

Of course, liberals are really conflicted on this point. They can clearly see that just because the Supreme Court called black slaves the property of their owners in the noted Dred Scott decision that it doesn’t make it so, yet they insist the same Court using the same logic to declare the unborn child to only be the property of the mother is correct and consistent with our moral and legal values.

Why am I not surprised with these two.Self centered, moronic, liberal progressives just enjoying life, and taking it away!

Good to see that you noticed “it” marfed into a human “baby”. I am even more pleased that the Mother-to-be had a change of heart. No telling what the self centered father-to-be has in store for the life of the young family. I pray for their very best and a long, happy life with a new found knowledge that material things are finite while the soul can exist forever.

Why are mexican women virtually crawling across the border to have their babies here?

Well, they're doing it so their kids can be anchor babies and they can get tied into our welfare system with no real chance of deportation.

Of course, that doesn't mean we don't have really good medical care here. Although...it's probably easier to find an OB in Mexico than it is in certain states here.

How does someone “accidentally” have intercourse?

Have you ever seen "The Last Boy Scout?"

The ending is pro-life, but the run-up is horrifying. While it is easy to dismiss these crazies for wanting to abort their first child, especially the heartless “husband” whose career is so important a child must die to keep it on track. However, on the plus side, the newspaper is read by a lot of people who think like they do. In that sense, it subtly nudges the liberal know-nothings toward the pro-life position. Thank God for the mother’s own mother, who seems to be the only sensible person in this story.

I happen to be agnostic when it comes to divine influence. I'm not wishy-washy: I just don't have so much arrogance as to believe I can know the Great Mystery.

Ususally I can see where agnostics are coming from, but you've really lost me here.

First, Christians and members of many other religions believe that God has been in contact with us precisely because we need help getting it. Saying that Christianity (for example) is a bunch of people claiming to have figured it all out is like saying that everyone who uses Windows believes they figured out DOS on their own, or saying every airline passenger considers themselves to be an airline pilot.

Second, (using Christianity as an example again) believers don't think they've figured out "the Great Mystery." They believe they've heard and believed accurate information about a man who died on a cross for their sins and then was resurrected. Saying that is arrogant, or that a man leading such a group and overseeing their doctrine is arrogant, is like saying that if I love America I must think I'm George Washington, and that anyone who has served as President must believe he's just as good and important as the Founders and Framers.

i think it’s so weird that the father was concerned that the taxis in Mexico have no seat belts, but he was willing to kill his baby... and her thought of “what kind of mother would i be if i could not provide my child with financial security, health care, blah-blah-blah?” she didn’t consider, “what kind of mother would i be if i aborted my baby?” this is all very strange to me...

Funny thing, the feminists think a woman can handle the Presidency, but can’t handle a pregnancy.

Beautiful!

Man....wait til the child reads this article.

That was my first thought.

The cabs don't even have SEATBELTS!!!

I love the husband's rational. No seatbelts is a reason for an abortion. Gotta keep the baby safe or else....!!!

How does someone “accidentally” have intercourse?

Can it be an accident if you don't remember it happening?

It's good because she chose not to kill the child, but I was mostly struck by the parents' self-absorption, which is the real face of the pro-abortion movement.

Imagine if their child ever reads that piece -- "mom, was I really that close to not being here?"

"As the father of three adopted children, I can only thank God that their birth mothers thought of their babies instead of only themselves."

I thank God for the same thing everyday.

Excellent post.
