Suit Alleges Town Targets Hispanics For Traffic Stops This article was published on Friday, July 6, 2007 8:47 PM CDT in News By Jon Gambrell The Associated Press ALEXANDER -- Hispanic drivers ticketed for having rosaries on their mirrors or small flags on their windows have sued town officials, alleging police targeted them and had their cars towed by a company that gives a portion of its profits back to the city.

Alexander Mayor Shirley Johnson says allegations of racial profiling won't stand up. Of 166 tickets issued in June, only 24 were given to Hispanics, she said.

Arnoldo Giron, a native of Guatemala, said Officer Tommy Leath cited him for driving with an obstructed view after noticing a rosary dangling from his rear view mirror. Ruben Duarte, also cited by Leath, had small Mexican and Guatemalan flags on his rear window. Leath also said Edvin Giron's tree-shaped air freshener posed a hazard.

So illegal aliens are getting preferential treatment.

Why weren’t ICE agents called in all these cases?

Perhaps statistically Hispanics were not being targetted, but giving anyone a ticket for a rosary or an air freshener hanging from their rearview mirror seems a little over the top.

Puhleeze! I’m sure the ticket reads, “even though Mr. —————ez was speeding, the Rosary beads found on his mirror made him in violation of my personal prejudices” LOL

Really?

This has been going on since the sixties, maybe even the fifties. You used to get a ticket for fuzzy dice on the rear view mirror. This is where the law came from. It was originally targeted at the fuzzy dice. It goes back to the days when cops started ticketing for loud mufflers, lack of fenders, and front bumpers too low to the ground. It was a response to the greasers and the hotrodders and the drag racers.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

A lot of noise being made. It would be awfully hard to win a lawsuit where people other than illegals are being issued citations 3 to 1 or more.

So highway robbery for BS reasons is OK, as long as you rob all ethnicities equally.

IT's your fault, after all YOU elected your representative who made the laws that the cops that YOU pay for enforce. If you don't like it pay more attention to who you vote for.

Hmmmmmmm ....... seems to me that a guy called Jefferson said something about "eternal vigilance is the price of freedom".

So illegal aliens .....

Where, exactly, you did you derive the fact that this individual was an "illegal alien"?

Does it derive from Descartes' Second Dictum: "You have a Spanish surname, therefore you are illegal"?

“Why weren’t ICE agents called in all these cases?”

They rarely show up, anyway.

How about reading the entire story before getting your bowels in an uproar.

A citizen of the United States and resident of Arkansas would need to have a valid drivers license.

Possibly a person on a legal visa could use an international drivers license for the term of their stay if allowed under state law.

However, a person on any kind of visitor visa could not work because they would not have a Social Security number.

It also helps to have a relative who lives in the area and has followed this story for some time.

Now if you know for sure the 42 individuals involved are American citizens then I might have to redo my former post.

Thats what I understand from stories I have heard.

There fearless leaders backed by Pandering Mike Chertoff would prefer not to be bothered with enforcing the laws.
