The age is about right but newsman GP was born in MN and George Palmer Putnam was married to Dorothy Binney at that time. They had two sons, George, Jr and David and lived in Bend OR.

I once sat next to the last Mrs George Palmer Putnam (there were four) at a luncheon in the late 80's.
