OK, so now the Tour will actually start. The flat stages, interesting as they may be - are nothing compared to the mountain stages.

Thanks for keeping us posted.

Hey you guys, check out this 3D tracker. It's especially nice to use this one now that we're coming into the mountains:

Good morning.

On your link I’m only getting a map that seems to focus on some area in a city. How are you using it?

It works with the same kind of interface as google earth. You can scroll around the landscape with your mouse, zoom in & out etc to find the blue route with riders.

Is it usual for a group to be so far ahead at the start of the mountains?

If the breakaway group doesn’t have any climbers, it’s not unusual at all. 8’ can be made up very quickly in the mountains.

I think the chasers will need to do some hard riding in the 20km leading up to the Colombiere, though. A couple riders in the break are decent enough climbers that they may be able to hang onto a six minute lead.

Is this race all about the mountains? Everyone kills themselves on flat stages for a few seconds only to have huge breakaways in the mountains take it all away.

I wonder they're going to regret doing it though. They've got a killer ride going up to Tignes tomorrow.

That's for sure. I wonder what, if anything, Savoldelli's placement in the break says about the chances of Kloden and Vino...
