It's hard to pay the kind of attention we paid before Bush blindsided us and left us searching for answers as to the betrayal.

Those of us who were loyal Bushbots have consistently supported the War and our military (as we still do)...

..but Bush divided our country egregiously, and we are still reeling.

It's hard to get on board the rah rah train...when our perceptions of him were so wrong.

I have literally gone from watching him on TV and saying 'I like this man, bless him'....

..to 'what is he up to now'....

If we quit listening to the propagandists and start listening to the troops, it will quickly become apparent that we are making significant progress in Iraq and everything will be all right.

I had a confrontation with someone at church this weekend. Her car was sporting a “Support the troops, bring them home” sticker, and knowing that my husband has been actively involved in several deployments, she asked me if I was “tired of it”. I said “no” and that we remained steadfast in our support of the effort and perhaps, seeing as she is not directly related to any member of the military, she should mind her own business.

I said this all, of course, in the sweetest way possible! What a Murtha!

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. But, more people are openly conservative now that in the 1980s. In the 60s and 70s the general public widely held that government programs could solve poverty, the welfare state was well protected, there were only three places one could go to for network TV news. All of that liberal orthodoxy has been overthrown.

Further, people may not necessarily vote for Republicans every time, but they are much more prone to identify themselves as conservatives today than in RR's day. Plus, folks are more likely to live their lives as conservatives.

Sure you still have communists on campuses. But their ideology has been thoroughly discredited. Even old style liberalism is entrenched in various places, but it's much more evident and liberals in politics cannot identify themselves as such. I tend to be quite optimistic.

Oh, please, if Noonan can make herself part of every article that she writes, we can feel free to connect the dots regarding her political about face. She was a gushing supporter of Bush, up until she went to D.C. to offer her services.

It doesn’t really matter whether she criticizes Bush or gushes over him, I hated her writing style before she did her about face. The fact that she abruptly switched sides is more indicative of her shallowness of thought, than the quality of her writing. She makes herself part of everything she writes, as if she is some important figure. She’s not. She never did give an any explanation of why she so abruptly turned into a Bush hater.

I didn’t address the rest of your post.

Bush’s policy problems seem to arise from the fact that he always looks for the best in people, until they prove him wrong. He is purely a black and white person, no shades of gray. Bush thinks that because America is so blessed that it is our duty to share that blessing with the weak, not just here at home, but worldwide. That is what colors Bush's foreign policy, both the WOT and immigration. Someone needs to tell the president, that you can't give people anything, that people don't value anything that is too easily acquired. I don't think that he would listen. Again, it's a matter of black and white.
