11 Hours of Nixon Tapes Released

WASHINGTON (July 12) — The National Archives made available on Wednesday more than 11 hours of tape recordings that show President Richard M. Nixon maneuvering in 1972 to remake the Republican Party in his image, crush South Vietnamese opposition to his efforts to end the Vietnam War and dole out patronage to ethnic groups based on how much they supported his re-election.

The release of the tapes along with 78,000 pages of newly disclosed documents should be a trove of fascinating detail and context for historians, archives officials said. The Nixon library in Yorba Linda, Calif., is now part of the National Archives, as a result of an agreement forged after years of bitter fights between the government and the Nixon family over custody of his official papers.

The most dramatic and revelatory tape recordings involving abuses of government power were disclosed in 1996 and included Nixon’s conversations as recorded by a hidden taping system as the Watergate scandal enveloped and eventually forced him from office.

The Clinton papers have, unfortunately, all been rolled and smoked. But no one inhaled...

You know, around the mid 70`s (when I was a lad in my mid teens), I remember my father telling me we would never hear the end of this Watergate. To quote him exactly; “We`ll be hearing about this Watergate crap till the year 2000 while that (insert expletive here) psycho Johnson is completely ignored!!”...Sorry pop, try 2007.

I know, sometimes I suspect the libs must have some kind of Nixon impersonator with all these tapes that come out every year, yet you never hear about tapes of Johnson, Carter, Clinton or even Monica!...Look at those Linda Tripp tapes of Monica you can`t even find those! I`ve never met anyone who has ever heard those tapes! All we got was the destruction of Linda Tripp.

The other thing you do not hear is the reason that the “plumbers” took such a big risk to break into the Democrat offices. They believed that the Democrats were running a call girl service which was being employed for favors and potentially for blackmail. Oddly, that aspect to the story was never of interest to the MSM.

Since running a call girl service happens to be against the law, if the D.C. police had been doing their job, THEY would have broken into the Democrat offices!!

Yeah, I’ve always been mystified why conservatives feel the need to be an apologist for Nixon, the ultimate RINO in a lot of practical policy ways.
