Wife of younger Hunter rallies campaign troops (Duncan Hunters (plural) alert)

Margaret Hunter says it isn't easy stepping into the shoes of her husband, Duncan Duane Hunter, who is running in absentia for the congressional seat his father is vacating.

“It is actually one of the hardest things I've ever had to do,” she says. Margaret, who lives in Lakeside, is appearing in her husband's place until December while he is on active military duty in Afghanistan and not permitted to campaign.

Margaret, a mother of three children, ages 6, 4 and 10 months, is no stranger to politics, having served on Congressman Duncan Hunter's campaign staff from 1994 until 2002. But she says she didn't do much public speaking in her previous role. She's confident, however, that she knows her husband's views, which are essentially the same as his father's.

There won't be a shortage of speakers at Duncan Duane's official campaign kickoff brunch Saturday at the Town and Country Resort & Convention Center in Mission Valley. His wife and father, now running for president, will be joined by Reps. Jim Saxton, R-N.J., and Trent Franks, R-Ariz.

Poor Lynne Hunter (Big Duncan's wife). She has a son running for Congress while in Afganistan and an underdog husband going for POTUS. Yikes.

Will pray for his safety and return home and that he wins the seat his father is giving up.

I wish the Hunters, pere et fils, success, but as a mother, I have to say I don't see how Mrs. Hunter the younger can run a campaign for Congress while caring for a 10-month-old.

Chuckling. With your brood, you’ll need more than 1 grandma’s help (if you were to try to run a campaign, that is). I’m not sure the 7th Cavalry would be enough :)

I’d welcome the 7th Cavalry, believe me.

Since they’re not available, I’ll just have to put off any political ambitions :-).
