The logic involved here is similar to the type used in WWII. The US (and the world) had to go through horrific losses before it felt that it had the moral justification to slaughter large number of humans. The same will apply here. We will lose large numbers of people in sacrifice to the moral high ground before we nuclear carpet bomb the Islamic regions of the world. Not to mention China as well for stirring up and providing financial support for the problem in the first place.

What we're doing out here in Iraq and Afghanistan is the old college try. We tried to bring these people into the 21st Century. We are still trying, and I haven't given up hope yet that we may well yet succeed. All the sacrifices so far have been necessary to convince ourselves that the survival of our nation-state and Western Christendom is worth the deaths of millions of Muslims whose major crime has been failing to curb their fanatics.

The technical difficulties of killing 1.2 billion human beings from Morrocco to New Guinea without poisoning ourselves make nuclear carpet bombing the Islamic regions of the world a fantasy. Ain't gonna happen.

How many of our countrymen will decide that the continued survival of this Republic is not worth it?

And what becomes of the men and women who fly the bombers, launch the missiles, and bring on the rain of thermonuclear death and destruction?
