Banning fast cars is just envy disguised as concern for the earth.

If one of the more extreme responses to global warming comes true, driving a sports car anywhere but on a racetrack might be relegated to history's dustbin.

Fast, powerful cars within a few years may be outlawed in Europe, an idea that has been raised ostensibly because Ferraris and Porsches produce too much carbon dioxide. For those who abhor sports cars as vulgar symbols of affluence (along with vacation homes, furs and fancy jewelry), such a ban could be a two-fer: Saving the planet while cutting economic inequality.

Who are these people anyway who decide on behalf of everyone what car is proper to drive? In the U.S. they're members of Congress, which is considering fuel-efficiency standards that will affect vehicle size. In Europe, it's the ministers and parliamentarians of the European Union, which wants to limit how much CO2 cars can emit as a proxy for a fuel- consumption standard.

Liberals want to take away our freedom and our right to enjoy a comfortable life. We have insane people running the planet.

The first song I ever learned, er, was taught as a budding bass player back in 1984. Wish I still had the red Rickenbacker 4001, having two others of different color sort of makes up for it though.

At the risk of invoking “donorcycle” arguments, an individual can spend about $10k and get a wickedly fast machine. I personally don’t like sportbikes, but so long as the youth and recklessness gene is kept in check by a decent sense of responsibility, they do look like fun.

Huh? I run out of fingers and toes counting the libs I’ve run into that think exactly like that. Finding gold in the woods, cool finds metal detecting, make some money in the stock market, work you way up to a prosperous position, purchase your own house, etc... They all elicit responses that you shouldn’t be able to do that, or you should have to give some huge amount up, it’s not fair.

Regardless of how much work went into it. And you can read in them like a halogen lamp their envy, envy born of the knowledge that they’re either to much of a pansy to take a calculated risk, or to put some 10 hour days in during 100+ degree heat for a glitter of gold, a 100 year old dime, or to work towards a goal.

Not only are most of them pathetic losers, they manage to have the clout to screw up productive peoples lives too. Their motto should be “Misery Loves Company”...

Within the context of motor vehicle laws “reckless” has specific legal definitions. “Opinions” as to what constitutes “reckless” are like, well, rectums... ;-)

If you ever drive in the middle of the country you will find roads with a 75MPH speed limit and crusing at 85-90MPH seems like nothing.

You really think you got that much extra power from a K&N intake?

I haven't had the car dynoed, so the HP gain is just what the "advertised" gain could be -- what I actually got I don't know.

But, the jump is gas mileage I can verify, both through the odometer computer readout and through my own calculation. My first trip in the car (gas to gas all interstate) I got 24.8 MPG. After putting on the K&N my last trip was 28.6 MPG. Now, I am sure some of the gain was just normal breaking in of the engine as the first trip was in the first 1000 miles, and the last trip was with 4000+ on the car, but engine break-in will not result in a 3.8 MPG gain, so the K&N had a big part in that.

Plus I have definately noticed a much improved throttle response - my only beef with the car early on was the delay from push to response - now it is almost instantaneous. Plus, it just sounds so damn sweet.

I am not going to do any tunes or chip mods though while the car is still under warranty. The K&N is Ford approved and will not void anything.

All my other mods so far have been appearance mods. Put on a Billet grill, put the 6 inch Red white and Blue Ponies on the side. Added Painted Window louvers to the rear windows. :-).

The only othe performance Mod I plan is to install Flowmasters in place of the stock pipes and mufflers. And honestly that is more a sound mod to annoy the hand wringers hehehe

Yeah, and that’s just the LS2. The aluminum LS7 427 small block (505HP) in the Z06 gets about 25mpg highway.

If only I had $70k to blow on a car...

I actually still listen to that every once in a while. I put a bunch of tracks from the Chronicles double disc onto my iPod. Good stuff.

Keep on strummin'!

The only state I can think of that has a speed limit over 70 is Montana. I lived in West Texas and was a state trooper in that state and there are no roads over 70 as of a few years ago ( I may be uninformed over the last couple of years ) and there are a few roads that are pretty desolate and long like highway 67 from Ft. Stockton to Alpine.

I believe Texas has an 80MPH stretch of highway in certain locations for daytime driving except for semis. I just feel the 55MPH limit is ridiculous.

Barchetta is really a generic term. It’s the same as spyder or roadster. Typically any car without a top or side windows.
