The "more to the story" part:

Jacobson told the newspaper she was on her way to go swimming with her kids on her day off when Stebic's sister, Jill, invited her to the house to discuss the case.

"My kids were in the car with me," Jacobson said. "It was a way for me to do my work and have fun with my kids."

This sounds like a truthful account -- I can see how the whole situation might have come about. "Well, but I've got my kids with me. We're going to the pool...." "Why not bring them here, and let them use the pool here while we talk?"

Her lapse in judgement is in creating the appearance of wrong-doing. But if she's telling the truth, there's a lot less "there" there than the story would otherwise indicate.

“Neighbors told Channel 2 in Chicago that Jacobson has visited the Stebics’ home frequently since she started covering the story.”

If you watch the whole 6 minutes of video, it sure looks like she is hanging out rather than working on the story.
