Washington Prowler
Gary Marx, a senior adviser to former Gov. Mitt Romney, apparently has started a Fred Thompson clipping service, along the way adding a bit of editorial perspective.
Marx, along with state Romney folks, spent most of Monday peddling the partially discredited Los Angeles Times articles that claimed Thompson lobbied for a pro-abortion group back in 1991.
Over the past 36 hours, the story has literally changed twice on the L.A. Times website, with facts removed or recollections changed.
That hasn't stopped Marx, who serves as a senior aide to Romney for outreach to social conservative groups, from emailing the articles, introducing them as a seemingly concerned conservative:
"Friends,
"Below are a collection of clips from press coverage of Fred's lobbying for a Pro-Abortion group. This is an important story to monitor as we all watch to discern the truth of this disturbing development. Please let me know what you think and what you may be hearing from others in this regard."
Disturbing indeed. At the same time on Monday, prominent social conservatives in Michigan and elsewhere were receiving hand-delivered files of clips regarding Thompson, similar to the ones Marx was emailing across the country."
A Romney insider says that their campaign had nothing to do with the peddling of the story, saying that another Republican campaign with friends inside the pro-abortion group spent time last week pushing the story.
"But this is big news, and if Fred wants to be frontrunner he ought to be used to getting beaten up like one," says a Romney supporter in California, who received the email from Marx. "Governor Romney's been a frontrunner for months and he seems to be dealing with it pretty well."
Whatever happened to the 11th Commandment?

Translation: We wanna lie with impunity like the way Democrats do!
Hey, it’s okay. As Fred just said to Hannity, “They know who to fear”.
Maybe someone needs to seriously investigate the connection between Romney and the LA Times via Mark Willes.
I was born and raised in Utah, being a Catholic, I can tell you someone like Mitt will not permit this type of thing to happen. The person, if he did this, will be dealt with.
The Mormoms are upstanding people, and they don’t believe in acting like libs....
A “Romney Insider”...A Romney “Supporter”...I’ll wait to hear something from Mitt himself before jumping too far.
You read the threads on FR and still believe in the 11th Commandment. I figured out long ago that not many on FR follow Reagan’s 11th Commandment idea.
Mitt’s pro-abortion and pro-gay record and subsequent phony phlip phlops are killing him, so he’s out to drag the other candidates down to his level.
So when Mitt was an avowed liberal, was he not a Mormon?
Does Harry Reid act like a liberal?
I hope you’re right, FRiend. Pointing out someone’s documented record in the interest of illuminating policy differences is fair game, IMO. Heck, if this were a solid story, then point it out and let’s have a discussion about its significance or lack thereof. But distributing a Hillary ‘Toon-linked story that currently looks suspiciously Ratheresque in its lack of legitimacy is pretty low.
I agree. I hope that this isn’t true .
There are too many forces that appear way to eager to create and exploit a rift between Romney and Thompson .
All the while, Rudy Giuliani glides onward to the nomination .
Harry Reid is from Nevada, Mob town.....bought and paid for....
Look at Orin Hatch....you will find what I am talking about....
Then, this.
From a candidate that never gave voters a vote,
even after he installed HillaryCARE=RomneyCARE.
You mean Orrin Don't Count Your Hatches Before They Chicken?
Sorry kids, Mormons aren't saints.
Why does this not surprise me.
Also the twelfth commandment: If you spread lies about a fellow Republican, don't get caught.
Did Romney order this or approve of it? No idea? Did it happen? Well, the American Prowler is usually reliable, and the facts given are name specific.
You ask whatever happened to the 11th Commandment after what has been posted here about Rudy? Mr Reagan must be spinning in his grave.
