7-Eleven fires clerk ( Border Patrol baseball hat latest )
Aspen Times ^ | July 10, 2007 | Scott Condon

Corporation tells Kirchenwitz dismissal unrelated to shooting incident.

Bruno Kirchenwitz was fired Monday from his job at the Basalt 7-Eleven.

The firing came nearly two weeks after Kirchenwitz may have been the target of a person or persons who fired five shots from a rifle into the store. Kirchenwitz said a 7-Eleven official who called to inform him of his dismissal claimed it was unrelated to the shooting incident.

He isn't buying it. Kirchenwitz believes he was fired because his presence as a clerk at the store could be bad for business. He is an outspoken critic of illegal immigration.

"Freedom of speech takes a back seat to profits,"...

Kirchenwitz started as a cashier with 7-Eleven on April 18. He said he never received a written or verbal reprimand and was complimented for his performance by the Basalt store's manager.

The firing didn't surprise him. "In the back of my mind, it was expected,"...

On one hand, it makes sense, he said. About 75 percent of 7-Eleven's customers in Basalt are Latino...so his presence could be bad for business, at least among anyone in the country illegally.

But Kirchenwitz was angry that 7-Eleven wouldn't admit what he believes is the obvious reason for his firing. "That sucks canal water," he said.

When asked if he would appeal within 7-Eleven's system or discuss his firing with the American Civil Liberties Union, Kirchenwitz said he would like to seek help from a different source - conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh.

Kirchenwitz, an outspoken critic of President Bush, said illegal immigration is about the only issue where he sees eye-to-eye with conservatives. If he got a chance to speak to Limbaugh, he said, he would sum up his situation as: "Poor white boy get shot at then gets fired."

Many people do not want their cars paint ‘keyed’ nor windows broken, so they are silent .

We still fly the American flag, but we would not be surprised to find a broken window some morning.

Vail even got a restaurant, a ski lift, and some other buildings set on fire by some who did not agree with Vail’s politics about some Canadian immigrants.

Meanwhile, I still have to sit in traffic behind those bitter-enders who refuse to take off their "Kerry-Edwards" stickers. But, they're safe since conservatives don't key cars. :-))

Well, that's a good issue to start with!

Thanks for the ping!

The real question here is why is this not being treated as a terrorism incident?

Let's see....foreign nationals, in the country illegally, use violence to try and intimidate Americans....

Sorta like the definition of terrorism, isn't it?

You are correct.

The Kerry Edwards stickers are an insurance policy... they're safe since conservatives don't key cars. :-))

It is my understanding that at least in Texas it is illegal to give out the information that she gave you.

You may want to re examine your feelings. Rush does not "interview" anyone below Dick Cheney. If he did, he would have to pretend he knew less than the interviewee and that would make him intellectually dishonest, which he is not.

You may want to reexamine your incorrect statement. Below are links to some of the people he has interviewed that are say you say "below Dick Cheyney"

Joel Surnow and Howard Gordon of "24"

Rush Limbaugh interviews Katherine Harris

Rush Limbaugh Interviews Arnold Schwarzenegger

William F. Buckley, Jr.

There people he has interviewed , including NFL players, other than Vice President Cheyney. Either Rush is more "intellectually dishonest than you thought or you don't listen to him enough. Regardless, you need to get your facts straight to avoid making anymore assumptions.

I just spoke with the head of media relations at 7-11 corporate office (Margaret) and she explained to me that the shooting & border patrol hat were not the reasons for his dismissal, at all. Bruno would pester and harangue customers and had other violations of corporate policy unrelated to this incident.

"Margaret" had better watch what you say she said, Vet. Unofficially speaking out of class as an official of the company, -about- the conditions and details of the termination of someone else is not a very good idea, legally.

Yes, I know all that. I was only making a point. :)

And just for your information, I usually listen to the whole show twice. The first time live, and then recap before going to bed. When great minds speak, not a syllable is to be missed !

I say the poor white boy got more guts, than the likes of the rich white elite trash of Bush and Kennedy who would like to give amnesty to the likes of the gutless illegals or illegal loving creeps who tried to intimidate him. He took a stand and lost his job, these days that is rare.
