Hunter has his problems too. He's a big spender, he voted for CFR type legislation and I still haven't addressed the charge that he's a protectionist.
If Fred runs a non no-nonsense across-the-board conservative campaign then he will be my choice. So far the early indication is that he is running such a campaign.
Yes, he spent like a Congressman, keeping money and businesses in his district, as opposed to allowing it to outsource. No better (or worse) than any other in office really. But I agree, he could have done better.
"CFR type legislation"? That's stretching it, considering Fred wanted his name on the McCain-Feingold package. If you give Thompson a pass, surely you can do the same for Hunter.
And the protectionist charge is because he wants to save the American industrial base. NAFTA - bad idea. China as MFN - horrible idea. I agree with him about making sure we keep crucial military manufacturing (software, armored vehicles, etc.) in this country, instead of allowing potential enemies to supply us.
He's said that he does not object to "fair trade" but our policy of "free trade" is not fair to American companies.
We'll never all find a perfect candidate, but IMO, Duncan Hunter is the closest.
Even though "he can't raise the money" to compete with the name recognition of the GOP elite.
